Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has openings for Associate Engineer Tool Design within the Tool Engineering organization. The position will be located in Moss Point, MS

The Associate Engineer Tool Design will be a part of the Tool Design Team and will support tooling needs for businesses, production, and other processes in a team-based manufacturing environment.  

The ideal candidate for this role will have leadership abilities to work with internal and external customers and colleagues to ensure that the design meets the customer needs and see it through each phase of the engineering process (Design, Fabrication, and Implementation). The candidate selected will need to be an excellent communicator and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment with minimal direct supervision, be adaptable to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.  If you are looking for an opportunity to grow with a leader in the Aerospace Industry, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

This position requires 100% work on-site located at Moss Point, MS.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Design simple to complex Tooling, Drill and Assembly Jigs, and Dies via Catia and/or NX to support production.
  • Properly layout drawings using views and dimensions that are in compliance with ASME Y14.1-5 standards.
  • Conceptualize designs in 3D, detail the CAD model and detail the drawings for fabrication.
  • Execution of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers.
  • Perform tolerance analysis and apply appropriate GD&T to ensure form, fit, and function.
  • Conduct root cause failure investigations and implement associated corrective actions.
  • Lead and assist the product development team with new product designs to ensure manufacturability, validate processes and technology.
  • Perform and review FEA analyses to ensure appropriate design margins.

Basic Qualifications Associate Engineer Tool Design:

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM related field with experience in drafting, tool design, engineering experience
  • Ability to understand, read, and apply GD&T to a blueprint.
  • Experience in Catia, NX or equivalent design software, and ASME Y 14.5 in a design role.
  • Must have experience with finite element analysis.
  • Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company

Preferred Qualifications:            

  • Experience designing in 3D CAD e.g. CATIA, NX, CREO etc.  Has a firm understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up
  • Experience managing projects (Cost, schedule and technical performance).  Understanding of Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external.
  • Experience working hands-on in a production assembly line environment
  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment 
  • Composite experience and process knowledge 
  • Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred

Salary Range: $58,200.00 - $87,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
