Northrop Grumman Marine systems is seeking an onsite Mechanical Design Engineer Level 2/3 to participate in the development and ongoing support of new and existing steam turbine designs used in surface ship, submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy. This position is onsite at Sunnyvale, CA.

What you'll get to do:

  • Apply engineering principles and industry practice in the design of assigned turbine and generator components and subsystems for machinery design engineering.
  • Develop design concepts, perform trade studies, and conduct supporting evaluations and analyses.
  • Participate in detail design, drawing development, design reviews, release for manufacture, and follow through test and production phases.
  • Will prepare and present formal technical briefings as required.

This position may be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications listed below:

Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline with 2 years of relevant experience; or a Master's of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline with no relevant experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Computer skills developing designs using solid modeling software, such as CREO/NX is required.
  • A working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards and geometric tolerance is also necessary.
  • Must be fluent in mechanical engineering principles, and must be proficient in developing design concepts, performing trades-studies, and conducting supporting evaluations and analyses.
  • Production issue resolution experience.
  • Required to work on site at Sunnyvale, CA.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline with 5 years experience; or a Master's of Science Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years’ experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Computer skills developing designs using solid modeling software, such as CREO/NX is required.
  • A working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards and geometric tolerance is also necessary.
  • Must be fluent in mechanical engineering principles, and must be proficient in developing design concepts, performing trades-studies, and conducting supporting evaluations and analyses.
  • Production issue resolution experience.
  • Required to work on site at Sunnyvale, CA.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters degree in Engineering Discipline.
  • 2 years’ experience in rotating machinery.
  • Knowledge in GD&T and solid modeling NX
  • Current active DoD Secret clearance
  • Knowledge of Design Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks
  • Technical project management experience with proven successful execution of technical projects to cost and schedule targets
  • Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution
  • Experience with design of fabricated and machined components, or design of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic subsystems

Salary Range: $81,300.00 - $121,900.00Salary Range 2: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
