Job Description

The Respiratory Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs all basic respiratory care procedures including patient chart and physician order review, patient assessment, equipment operation and management, monitoring and recording of patient therapies and physiologic responses to therapies.
  • Complies with bronchial hygiene protocol(s).
  • Initiates, checks, maintain and discontinue basic and intensive oxygen therapy techniques and respiratory therapy treatments.
  • Establishes and maintains an airway in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. May initiate external cardiac massage.
  • Instructs patients, family and other NM personnel in proper use of respiratory therapy and techniques.
  • Changes all equipment used by patients per policy for sterile set, checking function while applying mixes, medications used in Respiratory Therapy treatments.
  • Performs minor repairs on respiratory equipment. Follows proper equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Participates in educational programs to include in-services and involvement in research projects.
  • Assists medical staff and respiratory therapists by providing support during special procedures and as needed in the intensive care units.
  • Completes all documentation for patient charting in compliance with standards for accuracy and content established by the Department.
  • Utilizes respiratory protection equipment while performing job responsibilities to prevent occupational exposure to respiratory hazards.
  • Assists with ongoing clinical research projects leading to publication, presentations and/or changes in practice protocol.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Basic Life Support – American Heart Association
  • Currently Enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program

Preferred:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support – American Heart Association
  • Associate Degree (AAS)
