This position involves travel between schools within the District 2/Multnomah County community. The work environment is dynamic and constantly evolving. The School Team Family Coach will collaborate with professionals in partner school buildings, offering support and information to families through various outreach activities, including the TANF program and initiatives aimed at supporting students' academic success. A strong understanding of working with multiple partners and within school environments is essential.

This position requests duties to be done in both English and Spanish, but not required. This position may receive a 5% differential pay based on passing the required language test.

Summary of Duties

As a School Team Family Coach (Human Service Case Manager) you will:

  • Conduct interviews to assess family needs and determine eligibility for program benefits and complete applications and issue appropriate support when eligible.
  • Engage families to evaluate strengths, develop individualized case plans, and outline steps toward self-sufficiency, basic needs fulfillment, and children’s academic success.
  • Monitor family progress, needs, and makes necessary modifications to the case plan and support school’s student engagement plan as needed.
  • Initiate and participate in case staffing, school attendance/resource team meetings, and facilitating employment readiness, life skills training, and job search support.
  • Assist with crisis and safety planning for individuals experiencing domestic violence.
  • Explore alternate resources and link clients to community services and may also assist with supporting resources and services within the community.

Minimum Qualifications


  • A Bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field

OR

  • A Bachelor's degree in any field and one year of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing)

OR

  • An Associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field AND two years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing)

OR

  • Three years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing).

Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. For individuals needing an ADA accommodation to meet this requirement, you will need to be able to provide alternate method of transportation.

Essential Attributes

We are looking for candidates with:

1-Experience working with families that find it challenging to express themselves verbally.

2-Experience working in the human/social service field interviewing and engaging families to gather personal and sensitive information, determine eligibility for agency programs and benefits, and support them in navigating their case plan.

3-Experience creating and maintaining written documentation of activities concerning individual client cases.

4-Strong communication skills, including the ability to establish boundaries, uphold agency policies, and help clients and partners set realistic goals.

5-Experience explaining complex rules, regulations, processes, and procedures both verbally and in written communications while demonstrating respect, preserving dignity, and a passion to serve families.

Working Conditions

  • Position is fast paced at times.
  • High volume of individual and family contact. 
  • You will work with a diverse range of families, students, community partners, and education professionals, responding with compassion and professionalism through a culturally responsive and trauma-informed lens.
  • You will have contact with a range of people including some who may be experiencing emotional and financial stress.
  • You will work with domestic violence survivors. These situations may be stressful and understanding self-care and available resources are important. 
  • Employee's work is conducted in schools, and other community sites.
  • Hours of work may vary from day to day and may include evenings and weekends.
  • Your work schedule will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. PST, Monday – Friday. Occasionally you will need to adjust your schedule based on service need.
  • This position requires flexibility to work various hours, to flex in/out to allow for attending local events.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. For individuals needing an ADA accommodation to meet this requirement, you will need to be able to provide alternate method of transportation.
  • This is not a remote position.

Background Checks and Requirements

  • The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
