The role: 

Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience as a Student Intern - Accounting Assistant? Business Oregon, the state’s economic development agency, is looking for full-time interns to join our team starting June 2025 and continuing thru September 2025. As an intern, you'll work under the supervision of a senior accountant, accounting manager, and various staff within Fiscal and Budget Services section. You will perform accounting functions and some administrative duties.

Internship Details

  • Positions Available: Student Intern - Accounting Assistant

  • Duration: June 2025 – September 2025. Positions are 10-12 weeks; timing is flexible within the summer months

  • Hours: Full-time (32-40 hours per week) depending on the individual student

  • Location: Hybrid position with 2–3 days in our Salem office and the remaining days remote

  • Compensation: Paid internship $19.77 hourly

What you will learn:

  • Reconcile bank statements and treasury account statements

  • Reconcile specific subsidiary records to general ledger balances, as assigned by accounting manager

  • Assist in yearend closing entries in preparing schedules and supporting calculations

  • Assist in the deposit scanning of checks

  • Assist in preparing and sending out invoices for approval

  • Assist in payment of loan disbursements, grants, and invoices

  • Assist in calculating costs and other allocation entries

  • Filing the electronic payment records to appropriate folders

  • Responsible for other bookkeeping duties, as assigned

What We Are Looking For

  • We are accepting applications from students in their Junior or Senior year of college, and graduate students in their first or second year at the time of hire, in Accounting or Accounting major

  • Currently taking or have completed Financial Accounting or Intermediate Accounting course

  • Fundamental knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Knowledge of general accounting and business terms.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • General knowledge of how accounts payable and accounts receivable work

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.

  • Strong analytical abilities to interpret numerical data, identify underlying relationships, and make accurate calculations to solve problems.

  • Detail oriented and highly organized.
