Job Title: Product Development EngineerOC Business Title: Engineer (6B)Job Code(s):Revision Date:PURPOSE OF THE JOBSupport new product development and innovation for Owens Corning Fiberglass Technical Insulation business. The Product Development Engineer is a key contributor to advances that will lead to the improvement of existing and development of next generation products. This position is key to enabling growth in our Technical Insulation business, requiring familiarity in both materials science and process fundamentals. This work will include developing, qualifying and implementing new designs, materials, manufacturing methods, and analysis capabilities for Fiberglas Technical Insulation Products. By being a company that instills pride within every employee, we aspire to build market-leading businesses; global in scope - human in scale.Reports to: Technical Insulation Product Development LeaderSpan of Control: Individual Contributor with room to growJOB RESPONSIBILITIESLiving Safely• Actively participates in monthly safety meetings• Ensures rigorous compliance to safety procedures and OC corporate policies• Focuses on sustaining a safe work environment for self and coworkersProduct Development and Innovation• Plan, design, and conduct independent research on processes related to the development of fiberglass insulation products. Apply advanced scientific knowledge to projects.• Support large initiatives and lead workstreams within critical project priorities• Prepare prototypes and trial setpoints for lab and customer evaluation. Coordinate testing, organize data, and interpret results. Draw conclusions, make adjustment, suggest direction for, and implement improvements to process and products. Recognize problems and initiate corrective actions.• Design new test methods that align with end-user experiences that create new and differentiation claims for products.• Support work with top technical leaders, suppliers, and third-party experts to enable development of new innovative solutions and technologies to address complex challenges.Intellectual Property Strategy• File Invention Records on all innovations early in the innovation process• Write and file technical and memo reports in a timely manner, writing at least 2 reports annually• Understand and ensure communication with non-OC contacts is covered under NDA when applicableJOB REQUIREMENTSMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field (Advance degree preferred)• Ability to travel up to 20-25% of the time (varies depending on project need) is required• Experience with statistical analysis, data analysis and reporting.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:• Experience in Industrial Design preferred• Demonstration of safe work practices• CAD experience (AutoCad, Solidworks or similar) a plus• Statistical tools such as Minitab• Multi-functional leadership skills (ability to collaborate across functions from operations and other R&D functions)• Knowledge and familiarity of developing and maintaining intellectual property including patents and trade secrets• Exposure to an industrial operating environment• Demonstrated ability to generate new and innovative, customer inspired solutionsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:• Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures• Self-motivated with the ability and desire to work independently.
