Oxfam America employees are able to work remotely, but to be considered applicants should reside in one of the following states that are within a 200-mile radius of an Oxfam America office which are located in Boston and Washington DC: ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DE, WV, VA, MD, NC or DC.

Institutional Funding and Partnerships team, Executive Office, Vice President of Resource Development, Global Programs, Policy & Advocacy, Finance, Public Engagement, Oxfam International Institutional Funding, Regional Business Development Managers, and funding and program staff from other Oxfam affiliates and country offices.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Senior Manager, Institutional Funding and Partnerships is a key member of IFP’s leadership team and is responsible for overseeing and cultivating a high-performing team of Development/Senior Development Officers, provide strategic guidance on acquiring and cultivating meaningful donor relationships, and drive fundraising efforts from U.S. Foundations and non-U.S. government donors. In addition, this role leads the preparation of complex proposals, acts as a key external representative of Oxfam. and serves as a trusted knowledge resource for staff/leadership across the Oxfam confederation.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Accounts Team (SAT) Management and People Management (40%):
•Manage the Strategic Accounts Team (SAT). Maintain an overview of all donor submissions and awards; set key performance indicators and monitor opportunity pipeline data to ensure those are met. Refine the scope of work, targets, and team structure as needed to reflect current market.
•Directly supervise a team of Development/Senior Development Officers, including their pipeline, and portfolios.
•Manage growth and performance of the Strategic Accounts Team, including identifying, hiring, leading, motivating, coaching, problem resolution and developing talent to nurture a high-functioning Institutional Funding and Partnership team.

•Provide strategic leadership and expert oversight for proposal and report submissions by SAT staff, ensuring the highest quality standards are met. Provide quality assurance on funding proposals developed by programs teams and deliver hands-on support for proposals as needed. Responsible for approving all high-value proposals submitted by the SAT staff, in coordination with the IFP director and other designated signatories.

Optimize relationships with Existing High-Value Donors (40%):
•Act as a senior external representative for Oxfam, participating in meetings, conferences, and events to acquire new and strengthen existing donor relationships.
•Lead efforts on sustaining and growing relationships with key foundation donors, aiming to generate 6 and 7-figure grants. Develop and implement strategy in consultation with Director and cascade it down to direct reports.

•Manage relationships with assigned donor(s), including developing and implementing three-year donor account plan strategies for priority accounts.
•Provide strategic guidance to and collaborate closely with senior Oxfam leadership and applicable program and policy staff to cultivate and manage Oxfam’s relationships with strategic donors.
•Manage and conduct activities related to prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Write and/or edit proposals, reports, budgets, budget narratives, cover letters, contact reports, briefings, talking points and related material as appropriate to support fundraising strategies. Undertake donor-related travel as appropriate for meetings, site visits, and conferences.
•Identify areas of mutual strategic interest between strategic institutional donors and Oxfam programs and work collaboratively with program/policy staff and others to make programs and initiatives more marketable to new and lapsed donors.

•Continually build enhanced knowledge of the confederation and the Oxfam America program portfolios, and how they relate to the interests and objectives of SAT donors; support program design by sharing information about which characteristics are most competitive.
•Provide counsel and leadership to program staff and Development Officers on how to construct sophisticated budgets that reflect the cross-departmental and infrastructure needs of the program and consistent with agency budget protocols. Work with the Finance Department, Human Resources and the program staff to ensure that grant funded program work is included in employees’ workplans and properly coded to support financial donor reporting.
•Work with program/policy staff and Oxfam leadership to act as a thought partner for key donors, influencing donor strategies and approaches as needed.

Provide Strategic Input and Collaborate with IFP Team, Affiliates, and Confederation to Maximize Performance (20%):
•Serve as a key member within the IFP’s Senior Leadership Team, providing strategic direction and alignment across to the IFP team
•Provide strategic direction/leadership for high-value proposals being managed by the IFP team, ensuring such efforts are appropriately staffed and resourced.
•Partner with IFP’s director and sub-team leads (New Business Development (NBD), Operations, and Corporate) in order to identify ways to maximize revenue and efficiency.

•Partner closely with the executive office and program leadership, offering strategic guidance in securing institutional partnerships through which Oxfam America may receive awards. Extend the same collaboration and expertise to senior leadership from other Oxfam affiliates as needed. Stay abreast of trends in US foundation giving, serve as a knowledge resource for staff while ensuring the IFP team is well-positioned to respond to shifts in the philanthropic space, and adapt strategies/approaches to such trends.
•Champion the use of Salesforce or similar CRM systems to inform decisions and directions, ensuring accurate and up-to-date donor information and reporting data.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

•Expectation (15%) for domestic/international travel.

 

Hiring Range: $110,000 - $120,000

 

 

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION

•Advance degree in a field related to writing, communications, political science or international development, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCIES

•Minimum 8+ of related progressive experience with at least 5 or more years in institutional fundraising, with a proven track record of securing largescale from US foundation donors.
•Demonstrated experience in managing, leading, developing, and coaching a team of direct reports, preferably in a union environment, and external partners.
•Experience in developing and nurturing teams, strategies, and portfolios.
•Superior writing, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
•Proven ability to cultivate positive relationships with US foundation donors, staff, board members and volunteers; excellent listening and motivational skills.

•Strong time management, problem-solving, organizational, planning and administrative skills, including comfort with various information systems, and high proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Suite, with a strong aptitude for data-driven decision-making.
•Ability to manage complex proposal development processes with multiple applicants and interlocking budgets.
•Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity, prioritize work and to meet deadlines under pressure.
•Expertise in fundraising principles and practices relative to US foundations.
•In-depth knowledge of restricted funding budget construction and interpretation.

 

PREFERRRED QUALIFICATIONS

•Ability to communicate in French or Spanish.
•Experience in an issue-oriented non-profit organization or in an international development organization.
