The Package Development Engineer will source and manage the development of components for new innovative, promotional projects and maintenance of existing components/products. This individual will serve as a liaison between Benefit cross functional teams, component suppliers and contract manufacturers to drive the projects from initial concept to launch in relation to component development and ensure Benefit’s packaging is innovative, sustainable, and to our organization’s standards/DNA.


What You’ll Do:

  • Source stock and innovative cosmetics/skincare packaging component system, and sustainable materials
  • Lead status update meetings and project manage deliverables, serving as liaison between Marketing, Package Design, R&D, Purchasing, and the manufacturer on all aspects of development and/or redevelopment, ensuring key milestones are met for launch.
  • Approve artwork, attain proofs, color-drawdowns from component suppliers for review and approval with Packaging Design team.
  • Ensure packaging components have undergone and passed package/product compatibility, transit and package integrity testing.
  • Complete component and pack-out specification sheets for all components per project.
  • Visit component manufacturers, contract manufacturing filling sites to validate component FOP, line trials, and production/filling
  • Validate the methodology and procedures of suppliers in the production of parts, components, and final assemblies to ensure design goals are met. Work with suppliers to uncover or troubleshoot errors in the process.

Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of packaging development experience
  • Knowledge of Primary Components (plastic, glass, metals) and secondary componentry (unit cartons, paperboard boxes/palettes, labels)
  • Knowledge of tooling, injection molding, manufacturing, fill and assembly, production cycles and testing procedures
  • Understanding of technical drawings, 3-D models, color drawdowns and proofs
  • Knowledge of package development process and project timeline management.
  • Knowledge of product/package integration, material compatibility, and functionality.
  • Knowledge of printing process for both primary and secondary packaging, and experience with color matching.

Schedule:

  • Hybrid - requires onsite presence weekly

The target salary range for this position is $62,000 - $83,000. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, years of relevant experience; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. This position is eligible to earn an annual bonus. This position is also eligible for the following benefits, including but not limited to: comprehensive health, dental and vision plans; a 401(k) plan with employer matching, various paid time off programs; employee discount/perks; life insurance; disability insurance; flexible spending accounts.
