DESCRIPTION

This is a temporary position. Temporary Employment Services (TES) places employees in departments that have temporary staffing needs. TES offers a variety of assignments, an excellent benefits package, as well as opportunities for skill enhancement and exposure to career opportunities at UC San Diego. Hours, salary, and locations vary by assignment.

  • TES has 9 Painter Openings.
  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30A - 4:00P
  • Anticipated Duration - End Date 9/30/2023
  • Compensation: $39.78 /hour.

Required Skills:

  • Prepare, sand and mask exterior wall surfaces, floors, doors and window frames that may be constructed of wood, stucco, concrete, or metal; primes and completes to a finished surface.

  • Responsible for the daily cleaning and care of tools and equipment used in texturizing and spraying with warm soapy water, mineral spirits, or other appropriate cleaning solutions. Store all equipment in proper areas.

  • Perform skilled painting tasks involved in maintaining the finishes of exterior surfaces, interior walls, ceilings, and other related surfaces.

  • Select type of primer requirements, paint (exterior or interior), and correct color to be used. Match existing color and texture, if necessary.

  • Gather proper equipment for job to be performed and for efficient completion of tasks such as; drop cloths, ladders, handle extensions, respirator, paint brushes, paint rollers and sand paper. Set-up spray-gun equipment.

  • Apply various types of paint (oil, epoxy, water, rubber, vinyl, or cement-based), primers, or sealers by following product instructions.

  • Apply joint compound and tape to the joints and seams of walls, partitions, and ceilings constructed of sheetrock. (W)

  • Repair damaged walls and finishes with joint compound, grout, sealers, and water proofing using products specific to the trade.

  • Recondition wood, steel, aluminum, or Masonite interior doors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-5 years of recent painting experience

  • Proven knowledge in the painting trade including using brush, roller, and airless Sprayer

  • Proven knowledge of drywall repair experience.

  • Proven knowledge of and experience working with construction materials used in painting trade. Experience determining repair needs.

  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the installation, preparation, and repair of drywall and plaster surfaces.

  • Proven experience preparing surfaces to be painted such as sanding, scraping, wire brushing, and strip with a stripping compound.

  • Thorough knowledge of and experience using all power (including power saw, power sander, airless spray gun) and hand tools used in performance of assigned tasks, including cleaning and care.

  • Demonstrated experience working with different types of cements such as plastic or common.

  • Strong proven ability to read color chart, finish schedules, and interpret drawings and sketches.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate electric and hydraulic lifts and scaffolding.

  • Proven ability to safeguard areas and keys assigned to you.

  • Thorough knowledge of and experience working within related safety regulations and practices. Knowledge and ability to work in a safe manner according to local, federal, state and university requirements.

  • Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and work assignments. Skills to organize and prioritize work. Skill to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and diplomacy. Ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of people. Ay to communicate and relate to students, public, and staff both verbally and in writing. Ability to work well in a team or alone.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Background and DMV checks required.

  • Uniform provided.

  • Applicants must be able to travel to La Jolla Campus UC San Diego location.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $83,061 - $83,061 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $39.78 - $39.78

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
