Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, a large international law firm, is seeking a Paralegal for our award-winning Litigation E-Discovery Department. The E-Discovery Paralegal is responsible for all aspects of e-discovery and litigation support for multiple matters as assigned by Team Management. The E-Discovery Paralegal will work directly with the team, who average more than 20+ years in litigation and e-discovery. The E-Discovery Paralegal will receive extensive training in e-discovery technology, including the use of advanced analytics and AI in narrowing data sets and conducting effective document review, and will be expected to become fluent in that technology in a short period of time.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in all aspects of e-discovery, from preservation and data collection through document review and production, including budgeting.
  • Organize, index and oversee legal and e-discovery files (which exist primarily in electronic format).
  • Provide oversight of and assist with the management of contractor personnel on document review projects and various other legal projects.
  • Bluebook, cite check, and Shepardize briefs.
  • Conduct legal (or other) research as requested, including Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis, and Pacer.
  • Assist with briefing, deposition, exhibit and hearing preparation.
  • Proofread documents with a high level of accuracy.
  • Create comprehensive status and substantive reporting for client and legal teams.
  • Coordinate projects with e-discovery or litigation support personnel.
  • Assist on special projects handled by e-discovery team, including the following project responsibilities:
    • Tracking and organization of overall project;
    • Oversight of contract team members on project;
    • Provide support to project management team members;
    • Manage bulk litigation/claims.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Four-year degree or equivalent work experience; Paralegal certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in e-discovery, including working with Relativity or similar e-discovery platforms.
  • Understanding of e-discovery lifecycle, including all phases of the EDRM (Electronic Discovery Reference Model).
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a professional environment which includes progressive responsibility in managing litigation matters.
  • High technical aptitude and desire to learn new technologies.
  • Desire to work in fast-paced, innovative environment.
  • High level of proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office Suite applications, Adobe Acrobat, Litigation Pacer, Electronic Filing, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw (and Dialog) and other internet research tools.
  • Experience and knowledge to bluebook, cite check, and Shepardize briefs.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure.
  • Respectful, reliable and dependable team player.
  • Must be proactive and a good planner who is very detail-oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Must have effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, taking initiative to move projects to conclusion.
  • Display a strong client service orientation with a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of accountability, taking ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively.
  • Ability to assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge, Education, Certification, Licenses

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred:

  • Basic hardware and network systems knowledge.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional)

Optional:

  • Relativity certification
  • CEDS (Certified E-Discovery Specialist) or similar e-discovery industry certification

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Willingness to learn the litigation process from initial filing through trial.
  • Willingness to learn Relativity and other widely used E-Discovery applications.
  • Outstanding client relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to anticipate issues and solve them before a problem arises.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment working under strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Highly motivated to gain expertise and achieve certifications in both technical and legal project management fields.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to cultivate client and co-worker relationships.
  • Proven critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.

Experience

Required:

  • Minimum one year experience in professional services environment.

This is a full-time, regular position with a multi-faceted health benefit package including medical, dental, and vision. The firm also offers life insurance, short term disability plans and retirement plans in addition to holidays and paid time off. The pay range for this position in Winston-Salem only is $32.51to $48.72 per hour.
