About Us


Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital is a 35-bed rural acute care hospital located in Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii Island. More than 300 employees and over a dozen employed physicians staff the main hospital, as well the outpatient clinics located in the Lucy Henriques Medical Center, at our Primary Care Clinic located near Longs Drugs, and at our Specialty Clinic located in the Parker Ranch Center.

Responsibilities


I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for pre-registration, insurance verification, authorization, utilization of insurance benefits, and coordination of communication to clinical personnel and payment collection for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Provides administrative support to ensure efficient day to day operations.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Essential: finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
  • Continuous: sitting, frequent gripping of an object.
  • Frequent: walking, standing.
  • Occasional: lifts and carries items weighting maximum up to 30 pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level.
  • Operates (equipment): computer, calculator, multi-line telephone, fax, printer, and other office/business type equipment.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Subjected to many interruptions.
  • Occasionally subjected to irregular work hours.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Ability to perform 7,200 adjusted keystrokes per hour.

B. EXPERIENCE:
  • One (1) year medical office, admissions, insurance billing, or customer service experience.
  • Experience to demonstrate the following:
o Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
o Good interpersonal skills and telephone etiquette.
o Knowledge and skills in use of general office equipment.
o Ability to work under changing situations and interruptions.
o Ability to maintain highly sensitive, confidential material.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, third party payer regulations and financial requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local collection regulations preferred.
