Peraton is seeking a Cloud Software Engineer to ake on a pivotal role with our elite Cyber Intelligence team in Laurel, MD. You'll be part of an integrated product team, tackling high-impact challenges and engineering large-scale systems that matter.
As a key member of our agile team, you’ll help design, develop, and scale a powerful, full-featured cloud service running on large compute clusters and AWS infrastructure. Your day-to-day will include:
Architecting and building mission-critical cloud software solutions
Integrating Large Language Models (LLM) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
Tuning and optimizing for performance at scale
Automating deployment and monitoring with cutting-edge DevOps practices
Supporting the entire software lifecycle—from whiteboard to deployment (and beyond)
Collaborating across disciplines to solve complex, real-world problems
You’re not just a developer—you’re a cloud-savvy problem solver who thrives in fast-paced, high-stakes environments. Ideally, you’ve got:
LLM & RAG experience—you're excited about the potential of GenAI
Deep AWS expertise including SDKs, APIs, and architectural best practices
Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
DevOps mindset: Continuous Integration, Deployment, Testing, and Monitoring
Strong Java skills for distributed systems, with a handle on networking and concurrency
Experience working in Agile environments with modern source control workflows
Comfort in Linux environments and scripting in Python, Ruby, or Perl
Familiarity with Kubernetes and microservices architecture
A sharp eye for security and compliance
AWS Cloud Developer Certification is a big plus
Designing and developing scalable software solutions
Troubleshooting and resolving issues in a complex cloud environment
Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical direction
Driving innovation by proposing enhancements and performance improvements

Position Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is required, or alternatively, an additional 4 years of relevant experience.
A Master’s degree can substitute for 2 years of experience, reducing the total experience requirement to 6 years.
A minimum of 8 years of experience in software development/engineering, including activities such as requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting.
At least 6 years of experience developing software using high-level programming languages such as Java, C, or C++.
A minimum of 5 years of experience developing software for UNIX/Linux (Redhat versions 3-5) operating systems.
At least 3 years of experience in software integration and testing, including the creation and execution of test plans and test scripts.
