The PPSAT Recovery Room Nurse provides essential care to patients before and after surgical procedures. The Recovery Room Nurse works closely with the Physician and assists them during surgical procedures.  They ensure that the health center teams provide family planning and abortion services in accordance with PPSAT and PPFA polices, protocols, and procedures.

Schedule:  

Full-time position working 30 to 34 hours per week from Tuesday through Saturday. Dual role of working as a consent and recovery room nurse.

Wednesday 8:30AM to 4:00PM

Thursday 7:30AM to 3:00PM

Friday 7:30AM to 3:00PM

Saturday 7:30AM to 3:00PM


* Health Center closing hours vary depending on patient flow and recovery needs. Hours listed do not reflect the health center hours but are reflective of the actual clinical hours. 


What You’ll Do:
  • Provide nursing care to the patients in recovery room in accordance with all PPSAT policies and procedures, and all applicable state and federal regulations. 
  • Assist and monitor patients in recovery room, including taking vital signs, administer medication, giving verbal and written aftercare instructions and birth control information. 
  • Provide excellent customer service, eliciting client needs, and educating clients on PPSAT services and community resources. 
  • Provides education in a non-judgmental manner to patients by providing support and information on reproductive and sexual health issues, including birth control methods and pregnancy options including abortion, STI’s/HIV and safer sex. 
  • Responsible for stocking recovery room with necessary supplies such as snacks, drinks, pads, brochures, and PPSAT consent/patient education sheets. 
  • Assist with health center preparations and patient education as necessary and directed. 
  • Prepare and administer medications per provider orders. 
  • Maintain complete and accurate log of controlled substances administration. 
  • Ensure patient charts and logs are completed and maintained in a timely, accurate and thorough manner, including staff signatures and initials where required. 
  • Assist with the completion and documentation of Quality Control tasks, audits, and other quality assurance/management procedures as assigned. 
  • Participate in health center staff meetings and emergency drills. 
  • Assist Health Center Manager (HCM) in the development and implementation of new staff training. Participate in research activities, including recruitment and screening, as appropriate and as needed. 
  • Establish and maintain IV access as needed. 
  • Assist provider with routine procedures and emergencies during clinical sessions. 
  • Participate in maintaining a clean and safe environment. 
  • Monitor emergency cart inventory and equipment log on a monthly basis for all routine and emergency expired medications and supplies per PPSAT protocol. Report any concerns to HCM or ND. 
  • Take responsibility to remain informed about family planning methods, abortion options, services offered by PPSAT, and PPSAT protocols, policies, and procedures. 
  • Maintain ACLS certification. 
  • Establish and maintain IV access. 
  • Prepare and administer IV medications per provider orders. 
  • Assess patient during procedure and in recovery per protocols. 
  • Assist provider with management of complications.   
  • Use EHR to document consent form completely and appropriately. 
  • Assist with scheduling visit for patients receiving 72hour consent as needed. 
  • Triage patient daytime emergency calls to ensure timely response and documents interaction in the EHR. 
  • Consult with PPSAT clinicians and CMO for guidance on providing medical advice to patients as needed.

Compensation:  

The pay range for this position is $33.22 to $39.86 per hour with a Saturday differential of additional $7.00 per hour.  Starting offers are determined by both the candidate's experience and internal equity within the pay grade. PPSAT's compensation philosophy is based in equity and transparency. Built from data driven compensation studies, our positions are placed within a developed pay grade.
