Position Overview

Daily Harvest is looking for a Principal Engineer to join our Engineering team. The Engineering team focuses on architecting, developing, and delivering highly scalable and innovative software that meets the needs of the Daily Harvest business and our customers.

Collaborating directly with the Head of Engineering, the Principal Engineer will own the technical direction for Daily Harvest. They will be responsible for our most complex and impactful projects, and will act as a mentor for the Staff and Senior Staff engineers. This role will be part of a dynamic environment working to transform our digital business, all while collaborating cross-functionally with multiple teams.

What you'll do:

• Work with the C-Suite to understand the company vision and the 3-5 year roadmap
• Develop the technical strategy that serves the needs of today and the future
• Drive the alignment across the organization
• Set the example for planning and implementation of new or existing systems
• Inspire and mentor the up and coming technical leaders by providing technical advice, instruction, and training
• Identify risks and present recommendations to ensure the achievement of business goals
• Help build a culture of ownership and autonomy; one that is result-driven, accountable and serving the needs of the business
• Guide the engineering org to set up and iterate upon the standards for the code, the performance, the architecture and scalability
• Operate in a scalable engineering culture that leverages modern principles of decoupled systems and automated CI/CD and monitoring platforms to drive efficiencies
• Drive the definition of software development project plans, including scoping, estimates, and implementation

Who you are:

• Education, training, or experience equivalent to a BS (or higher, e.g., MS, or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics)
• 10+ years of progressive experience with extensive knowledge in all aspects of software development and project lifecycle, preferably with an emphasis on the backend systems and services
• Excellent Python skills and experience implementing complex systems architectures
• Huge plus: Node, JavaScript, Typescript experience
• Experienced with modern, relational database systems and cloud based persistence technologies
• Experience with at least one cloud service provider such as Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure
• Huge plus: Shopify experience
• Supply Chain and Fulfillment experience a huge plus
• Comfortable identifying and solving ambiguous problems, architecture deficiencies, and bottlenecks
• Excellent understanding of software engineering best practices
• Experience leading design reviews
• Experience in interviewing and hiring engineers
• Experience with observability tooling at scale
• Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment

The anticipated annual base salary range for this role is $200,000-$240,000. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skills.
