Production Editor

Overview:
This person is expected to sucessfully manage the production of digital, online, and print content.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of SAGE digital, online, and print content.
  • Work with authors, acquisitions editors, permission editors, designers, marketing staff, vendors, production operations staff, developers, and freelance copy editors, typesetters, proofreaders, and indexers to produce digital and print projects on time and within budget.
  • Manage multiple projects with competing priorities, following the department workflow processes detailed in the PE Manual.
  • Solve problems proactively before they can affect the production schedule.
  • Communicate professionally with authors, in-house colleagues, and out-of-house vendors, representing SAGE’s values of integrity, respect, and collegiality.
  • Maintain and update internal databases so that each project’s schedule is accurate and realistic.
  • Help train freelance and vendor resources.
  • Serve as the author’s primary liaison during the production process.
  • Communicate to relevant managers and departments any changes in project status.
Qualifications & Education:
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
  • Excellent skills in grammar, punctuation, and style
  • Computer skills, with a proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiarity with APA and Chicago editorial styles
  • Book/digital publishing experience
  • Maintain confidentiality and work with diplomacy
  • Reason and solve problems
  • Communicate effectively verbally and also in writing
  • Work productively with constant interruptions
  • Multitask
  • Manage projects effectively
  • Communicate effectively internally and externally, including effective and cordial communications with other departments, with authors, and with customers
  • Effectively manage vendor, freelance, or consulting relationships
  • Meet deadlines and work professionally under pressure
  • Make effective and well-reasoned decisions

Compensation at SAGE is influenced by several factors, including but not limited to skill set, nature and level of experience, qualifications, and other relevant considerations. We anticipate the minimum full-time salary range for this position to be between $22.90 - $26.34 per hour. Please note that the compensation details listed in U.S. role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include bonuses or benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range and additional aspects of the compensation/benefits package for this position during the hiring process. If your desired salary falls outside of this range, we hope you'll still apply as there may be other positions that better align.
