As a Utility Person at Cleveland-Cliffs Steelton, you will be part of a global team making steel that goes into products that are visible all around you. Ideal candidates enjoy hands-on, collaborative environments and are willing to seize opportunities to develop themselves. Utility Persons perform all types of general labor and light mobile equipment operation required to maintain and support plant operations in various producing units.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Work with materials and equipment necessary to transport and process product and materials.
- Support and assist in maintenance activities in their area and in support of operating units.
- Positions will require the following capabilities: operate multiple levers to control the operation of a piece of equipment, observe product for quality control and interface with computerized product tracking system.
- Operate various large hand tools and industrial pneumatic power tools and may require heavy lifting (up to 50lbs).
- Work with overhead cranes to move product or material, hook up parts of overhead crane and give crane signals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to follow company safety and other procedures.
- High school diploma required.
- Successful applicants must be at least 18 years old, be able to work full time rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, have stable employment records (preferably in an industrial environment).
- Qualified applicants will be required to pass an assessment test and complete a post-offer background review including a criminal conviction and work history check.
- Candidate must submit to and pass physical exam which includes a hair follicle drug screen.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
- Climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, walking, use of hands, etc. is required.
Preferred Qualificatoins
- Mechanical and Electrical knowledge
- Experience working in a heavy industrial environment.
- 2- year technical degree.
- Experience in a union environment.
