Project Management (Project Specialist 2)

What You Will Do

The Project Specialist will report to the Project Management Resource Center organization functionally and be deployed to the Offices of Project Management, Construction Management or Engineering Services depending on organizational needs and the candidate's qualifications. The Project Management Division focuses on providing excellence in project support for both large and small projects. The portfolio supports every level of complexity on projects from parking structures to cell towers to nuclear facilities. The Construction Management Division supports the development and management of the construction, maintenance, or site services subcontracts from conception to closeout for customers across Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The Engineering Services Division Project Delivery Groups are responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at LANL as it pertains to design of infrastructure including utilities, systems, and buildings across the facility.

Successful personal traits of this position include ability to take direction, communication, organization, learning, helpful attitude, and teamwork; capable of technical document management; editing and production; scope, schedule, and budget tracking; contracts management assistance; supporting team meetings and walk downs and process improvements support.

This is a Term position for one year, which may be renewed at LANL's discretion up to a maximum of ten years. Individuals in Term positions may bid on regular LANL positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. Relocation and Lodging allowance is available for those who qualify.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Experience working in a technical environment with basic knowledge of one or more areas of construction, engineering, procurement, and subcontracting processes.
  • Independently research, assemble and analyze information or data related to assigned area.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Project, OneNote, SharePoint, Teams, and the ability to learn new software and document management systems to perform job duties.
  • Ability to resolve issues and provide resolution to a diverse range of challenges where analysis of the condition is required and coordination and collaboration with several stakeholders may exist.
  • Ability to assemble technical work documentation and perform quality assurance reviews based upon a defined procedure or checklist.
  • Ability to prepare agendas, schedule and take minutes of meetings as well as attendance, utilize Laboratory and local training systems to assign and track training compliance.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and customers.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Ability to conduct field observations with Subject Matter Experts to monitor construction and facility sites for compliance with construction, Subcontract and engineering requirements as assigned.
  • Familiarity in nuclear facility operations or other highly complex, hazardous operations, particularly as it pertains to the Los Alamos National Laboratory Mission.

Education
  • This position is expected to be entry level into construction related fields. Three or more years of construction or engineering related experience required.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Please refer to Policy Policy P701 for applicant eligibility requirements.
