Summary
Installs, tests, troubleshoots, and commissions protection and control equipment, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and associated communication devices while providing leadership and guidance to other technicians both Oncor and contract to ensure proper operation of system protection relaying schemes and SCADA systems to eliminate or limit damage, prevent the spread of system disturbances, reduce the number and duration of customer outages, and to minimize the probability of an ultimate cascading electrical system blackout. This role will also aid in the effort to meet Oncor’s financial targets from a construction and commissioning standpoint.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Install and supervise the installation/commissioning of protection and control facilities, modify designs as needed, test and calibrates protection schemes and SCADA equipment, and provide direction for the technical aspects of substation construction projects in transmission switching stations, load serving substations, generation switchyards, and interconnection facilities with other companies to insure that the appropriate protection and control facilities are installed safely without adversely affecting electric service.
- Support Construction Management and District construction schedules.
- Support TPMO by tracking progress and updating and maintaining construction tools such as PETE.
- Assigns contract Technicians to tasks in order to develop their performance skills and experience level. Provides direction and dictates the scope of work for construction projects. Responsible for managing/submitting station outages, procedure preparation/review, and ensuring all test data is captured and submitted to maintain compliance and proper commissioning of protective relaying equipment.
- Develop testing plans and tests and installs protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, associated communication equipment, and SCADA systems to insure that protection and control facilities operate as designed and to insure system integrity and the reliable and secure operation of the ERCOT bulk power transmission grid and the power delivery system.
- Monitor and analyzes the performance of the protection and control system, analyzes digital fault recorder information, investigates questionable operation, troubleshoots and repairs the protection and control system, and recommends programmatic solutions as needed to insure system integrity and the reliable and secure operation of the ERCOT bulk power transmission grid and the power delivery system.
- Develop written procedures for use by both Oncor and contract P&C Technicians to help insure that construction activities are conducted safely without unnecessary system exposure, customer interruption, or facility interruption.
- Provide technical direction to Oncor and contract resources for mobile equipment installation to help insure the safe reliable operation of the transmission system while using for construction activities.
- Provide technical direction and performs emergency protection system modifications and high voltage switching to restore electrical service without unsafely exposing the electrical system.
- Supervises and provides guidance for multiple groups throughout construction projects.
- Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.
P&C Tech I
Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology or similar field preferred. Positions are also available for candidates with an Associate’s Degree in related field and 5 years’ experience or 7 years’ experience in related field.
- Candidates should thoroughly demonstrate proficiency in electrical/electronic theory and computer hardware/software skills.
- Candidates should have demonstrated leadership abilities.
P&C Tech II
Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology or similar field preferred. Positions are also available for candidates with an Associate’s Degree in related field and 5 years’ experience or 7 years’ experience in related field.
- Candidates must have completed the necessary Technician Required Objectives (TRO’s) and progression testing requirements set in place by the Transmission Staffing Work Group (TSWG) or have the necessary related comparable experience equal to that of a Tech II and the concurrence of the TSWG committee.
- Candidates should thoroughly demonstrate proficiency in electrical/electronic theory and computer hardware/software skills.
- Candidates should have demonstrated leadership abilities.
