Terms of • 230 days per year. FLSA Classification: Exempt
Employment: • At-Will employment agreement

  • Temporary Assignment: July 1, 2023, to June 30,
2023, with possible extension
  • Salary is in the pay grade E14 on the Exempt
SAISD Compensation Plan.
  • Entry salary is at $59,800 with consideration for
directly related experience.

Job Scope

Uses significant independent judgment and familiarity of the field to perform work. May be responsible for
administration of various moderate and high complexity departmental programs and may be the lead a group of
employees. May develop policies and procedures and oversee the implementation and execution of them.


Position Summary

The Publications Editor produces electronic and print publications to engage with key stakeholders and writes and
edits content for a variety of communications. Other responsibilities include maintaining schedules for the
development of various publications, researching, writing, editing, and laying out publications, and making
recommendations for planning and communication projects that support campuses.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. Produces District electronic and print publications, involving research, story selection, writing, editing and
layout of publications using latitude for independent judgment.

2. Adheres to production timeline; sets up and maintains schedules for development and completion of
various District publications.

3. Coordinates with photographers and graphic designers to budget, schedule, and complete production
projects.

4. Writes and edits copies for other projects that engage diverse target audiences.
5. Collaborates with other departments, campuses, and staff members to identify news and promotional

opportunities and develop materials using solid knowledge.
6. Develops and publishes the content for the District’s social media and coordinates with campus social

media managers to distribute appropriate content across campus channels.
7. Provides recommendations into the planning of communication projects in support of campuses and

District events.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities

expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years progressive experience in public relations, journalism, or other communications related function
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Associated Press style
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communications for public education is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and
diplomacy.
  • Excellent writing, editing, fact-checking, and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in all areas of the editorial processes, including story development, quality control,
and collaboration with design and print production.
  • Demonstrated experience writing articles and other materials for print and online, with ability to adapt
content to targeted audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks.
  • Proven ability to relate positively to others and work effectively with District and campus staff to promote
quality school, community, and business relationships.

Working Conditions

Work Environment:

  • Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and
equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional
exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.


Physical Demands/Requirements:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged or
irregular hours; Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; Occasional: Lifting
and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with
assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically; May be required under specific circumstances to
provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others; Frequent
districtwide and occasional statewide travel.
