Intermediate Technical Manual Writer

Upon contract award, the Intermediate Technical Writer will work as part of a team supporting the conversion, update and development of technical documentation and technical manuals.


The day to day responsibilities of this role will include:
  • Develop technical manuals, which may include operations, preventative and corrective maintenance, schematics, and illustrated parts breakdowns from compiled engineering technical reports, drawings, and parts lists.
  • Assist in the development of illustrations, graphics and flow diagrams to support documentation.


Qualifications
  • High school, trade or industrial school or bachelor’s degree.
  • Seven (7) years of experience as a technical writer to include developing, modifying, and reviewing Naval shipboard technical documentation and U.S. Navy Technical Manuals.
  • Editing and reviewing technical manuals in support of maintenance, repair, testing, product improvement, and/or alteration of Navy Ship HM&E and Electronic/Weapons Handling Systems and Equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Strong verbal communication, listening and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to research highly technical information and interpret data.
  • Experience with editing and production tools (i.e. FrameMaker 11, Adobe Photoshop, Arbortext Editor, MS Word, etc.).
  • Experience with S100D and style guides a plus.
  • Experience with the Navy’s SDL Contenta Publishing Suite a plus.
  • XML authoring (using S1000D)


This position requires the candidate to have/obtain a government security clearance to the level of SECRET.
