QA Lead Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

Apheris is pioneering a new way to securely share data across companies. We are looking for a hands-on QA Lead Engineer who is passionate about quality and evangelizing best practices when it comes to automated end-to-end testing. You will be the first QA engineer working within a multi-disciplinary team of best-in-class engineers. You will start as an Individual Contributor and help build and place a team of QA Engineers and lead as a subject-matter and technical expert. You will directly report to our VP of Engineering Eero and closely collaborate with our Founder and CTO Michael.You will partner with other tech leads and a team of very sharp engineers and data scientistsand define our testing strategy and implementation. You will work closely with other specialists across the organization and our customers’ IT and Security teams, so excellent communication skills and a collaborative mentality are crucial.

We’re seeking candidates with experience of high-growth fast-paced environments and who have a track record of bringing industry-leading products into production. Though you’ll build and manage a small team, this role is hands-on and requires excellent technical leadership abilities. You should be a problem solver, a self-starter and have deep testing expertise across cloud technologies, data products and data science.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Defining our long term QA and test automation strategy and working with key stakeholders to ensure successful roll out across all our teams.
• Collaborating and coordinating throughout the release process to ensure we have effective test coverage. Partner with team members to continuously improve testing capabilities and make the results of the testing more useful and transparent.
• Develop test plans and test cases that are crafted with our business goals, product requirements and technical implementations in mind.
• Plan E2E testing and test automation on the platform and ensure that our testing is as rigorous and thorough as possible; identifying edge cases and use case scenarios as the platform grows.
• Prepare and distribute test reporting that provides engineers and stakeholders testing data that allows them to make better decisions.
• Creating reports and documentation to present and communicate ideas. Being independent and take initiative in finding issues in designed processes.
• Hire a team of QA Engineers and lead them. Evangelize about processes, tools and test suites.
• Maintain testing schedules for all features coming out of our other teams, ensuring they are hitting their deadlines and reporting out on progress.

YOU SHOULD APPLY IF

• A demonstrated track-record of QA Leadership experience in B2B software products with high requirements around security, reliability and regulatory compliance.
• A self-starter with the ability to work independently, but recognize when you may need to collaborate with other individuals or teams.
• Multiple years of hands-on development experience – experience in the full software lifecycle from design to deployment. You have expert experience with Python and preferably Go.
• Experience with test automation tools.
• Experience of designing, developing and maintaining an automated test framework and managing its rollout across an organization. Demonstrated experience collaborating with product and engineering leadership to translate product objectives to test plans and delivery, and ensure priorities and expectations are both aligned and are realistic.
• A passion for relentlessly striving to push toward best practices and team goals while being flexible in a fast-paced start-up environment.
• Great communication and leadership skills with demonstrated experience of taking on a lead role in a team of QA engineers. You should be able to confidently take ownership of a problem, gather ideas to solve it, and convey your approach efficiently.
• Based in a European time zone.

BONUS POINTS IF

• Experience with setting up and using CI/CD, system monitoring and alerting tools.
• Experience with large-scale products consisting of several distributed services / microservices connected via the public internet.
• Good knowledge of modern microservices and web applications.
• Experience with multiple cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenStack) and on-premise setups (e.g., locally hosted Kubernetes).
• Experience in developing enterprise-grade software for large B2B products.
• Based in Berlin.
• Passionate about DevOps culture and way of working.
