Position Summary
Quality Inspector is responsible for locating and addressing errors in a manufacturing process that may cause poor product quality, performing the required quality intervention and measurement to ensure high degree of product quality in daily work operation, and reporting and analyzing product defects and process gaps to prevent future defects from occurring.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform in-process inspection on multiple types of fabrication, welding and assembly of pressure vessels, piping, structural steel, and process/compressor equipment as defined and stated in the relevant inspection and test plans (ITP) and following Exterran’s Quality Management system requirements (non E&I).
- Perform incoming inspection for major components and other received material as defined in ITP or relevant receiving inspection plan and record / document verification.
- Perform weld visual inspection and complete welding documentation.
- Witness Hydrostatic Testing and interpret test results.
- Verify paint systems for proper preparation and application of coatings
- Perform final inspection and quality check for assembly units (non E&I).
- Perform FAT test on electrical and instrumentation. (E&I only).
- Prepare ITR (Inspection Test Regard, as required, based on the project / Exterran specification during the FAT.
- Calibrate measuring instruments as required.
- Perform and participate in all required audits include and not limited to working station audits, Layered Process Audits (LPA) and international code/standard audits if applicable.
- Ensure compliance with drawings, technical specifications, related international standards and customer pre-defined quality expectations.
- Report and address quality issues related to non-conforming material or components and obtain timely disposition to maintain production flow.
- Maintain an attitude conducive to continuous improvement and be an active contributor to the teamwork concepts.
Required Education
- Minimum High School diploma
Required Experience & Skills
- NDT- VT (Visual Test) level II certification.
- Minimum 5 years hands-on inspection experience either in pressure Vessel / Spool / Towers fabrication or Compression unit assembly (not applicable E&I).
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in testing Multimeters, Meggers, HART Communicators, continuity tester (E&I only).
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in E&I – inspection at process skids and oil and gas processing plants (E&I only).
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in painting inspection (Painting only)
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience of using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and other gages.
- Thorough knowledge of various welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW)
- AWS / CSWIP – 3.1 welding inspector certification (Welding inspectors only).
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs to ensure proper installation and electrical connection of skid components, including point to point checks (E&I only).
- Knowledge of national and international standards such as IEC, NEC, NEMA (E&I only).
- NACE or BGAS level II certification (Painting only).
- ATEX or COPEX certification if regionally required.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical notes and specifications.
- Basic Knowledge in the use of Microsoft suite of office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Fluency in English is mandatory in both reading, writing and oral communication Basic knowledge of ISO 9001.
- Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Education
- Engineering Degree (in Electrical instrumentation for E&I).
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Has a moderate understanding level of ASME, ANSI, ASNT, ASTM, AWS, NACE and API national codes.
- Basic knowledge of PLC programming (E&I)
- Experience in using Oracle Quality module.
- Fluency in Spanish in reading, writing, and oral communication is preferred in U.S. and Latin America; Arabic preferred in Middle East; Chinese/Thai/Indonesian preferred in Asia.
Preferred Training & Certifications
- NDT - UT/ MT/LP level II certification.
- LSS (Lean Six Sigma) white belt.
Physical Demands
- Wear designated PPE while on the shop floor or other locations which require PPE
- Ability to:
- Stand on shop floor for minimum 8 hours per day
- Lift minimum of 50 pounds
- Climb stairs and ladders frequently
- Stand, squat, and crawl to reach various pieces of equipment
- Experience potential exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases generated from fabrication activities
- ASNT vision requirements
- Must have visual acuity in at least one eye capable of reading the Jaeger J1 test chart, or equivalent, at a distance of not less than 30.5 cm (12in.).
- Must be able to differentiate between the colors used in the NDT method(s) for which certification is required.
Must be able to communicate and respond to coworkers, suppliers, customers, and emergency cues/alarms, in person and on the telephone, including use of mobile devices
