Overview:
Vitro Architectural Glass is seeking a talented individual for a Quality Control Technician position at our glass plant in Fresno, CA. The incumbent is primarily responsible for collecting data on various phases of the production process, comparing collected data to established specifications, recording data, communicating data to production, and performing a variety of miscellaneous duties as necessary. The plant is a 24/7 operation. Must be able to work overtime and rotating shifts.

Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities

Collects data on various phases of the production process through both physical and visual testing.
Physical Testing

Uses ream comparator to check ream.

Uses striascope photographic equipment to evaluate transmitted distortion.

Uses furnace for glass bending to check bloom.

Check crossbow /bow and dish using the crossbow apparatus.

Check top tin using baby powder.
-
Check warp using the warp apparatus.
-
Weights cap of glass used in the calculation of tons per day.

Silvers samples for surface evaluation, (as needed)
Visual Testing
-
Checks process sample for seeds.

Measures distortion visually with the use of a zebra board or pattern comparison test equipment.

Completes surface checks using edge lights, green lights, reflective lights and even transmitted lights to prevent out-of-spec glass from getting out to the customer.

Collects data used in calculation of tonnage/day of the process tank using micrometer, 40" ribbon width sample and lab scales.

When needed monitors thickness changes, defect blow-downs, defect bumps.

Compares all collected data to established specifications and reacts accordingly to non-conformance.

Records data on process sheets, computer SPF terminals, for review by management.

Communicates to production supervision a summary of collected data so that they may initiate corrective action. Informs relieving technicians of pertinent information relative to previous shift activities. Reports all problems of any nature to management, via SPF or telephone.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous related duties such as aiding in special projects, special process experiments, experimental analysis and other related duties as directed for efficient department operation.
In accordance with California law, the expected hourly rate for this California position is $21.95.
Qualifications:
High School degree or requivalent
2 years of working knowledge and experience in QC
excellent written and verbal communication skills
