Quality Technician II - Swing Shift
We are currently recruiting for the Quality Technician II to join the Benchmade Knife Company team. The Quality Technician works in partnership with the Quality and Engineering teams in problem identification of out of specification parts. This role participates in process improvement teams, as well as working with area leads in writing process work instructions. The Quality Technician audits process functions and assists with CMM programming needs and troubleshooting issues

- Creation of inspection specifications based on engineering drawings, utilizing knowledge of GD&T.

Order and management of gauges including calibration, use locations, etc.

Backup CMM Programmer in the creation of inspection programs for both Optical and Touch CMM tools.

Work directly with Quality and Engineering teams in the identification of problem components found though the inspection, MRB and Non-Conformance processes.

Performs inspections of in-house manufactured and outsourced finished products and components.

Perform complex inspection for designated products and parts, ensuring the proper quality tools are used for accuracy and fit-for-use.

Perform AQL inspection for designated outsourced products and parts.

Maintain inspection data using uniPoint inspection records, forms, and MS Excel spreadsheets as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of all inspections and generate inspection reports, Non-Conformance records, etc.

Perform cost analysis to disposition non-conforming product as scrap or rework.

Participate in process improvement and Corrective/Preventative Action teams.

Technical writing of process work instructions and specifications.

Audit operation processes to their standard work in order to ensure conformance to company standards.

Assist manufacturing personnel in the knowledge and tools needed to perform their task per the Benchmade quality standards.

Train the Quality Inspection team as needed.

Serves as a resource to Quality Inspectors

Follow established procedures within the department for all activities.

Maintain cleanliness of personal and shared workspace based on 6S principles.

Represent the Quality Department in a positive and consistent manner.

Participate in cross-functional projects as a representative of the Quality Department

Qualifications:
Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and 5 years of experience within a quality-related role is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.

Certified Quality Technician or similar ASQ certification required
-
Thorough knowledge of basic inspection tools such as caliper, micrometer, drop gauge, gauge pins, thread gauges, etc.
-
Knowledge programming Optical and Touch based CMM’s, specifically Calypso based software systems.
-
Able to interpret advanced elements of mechanical drawings and specifications.
-
Strong understanding of GD&T and able to interpret GD&T callouts utilized on mechanical drawings and specifications.

Able to perform visual and dimensional inspections for cosmetic and other criteria.
-
Ability to detect differences in color of many material types, including small differences in shade
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision

Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Strong technical writing skills.
-
Zeiss Training Certificate in Basic Calypso Programming highly desired.

Intermediate computer skills in MS Office applications; familiarity with ERP systems.

Demonstrate the ability to routinely cover multiple areas (QMS, NPI, and Production) with support requiring a variety of skills in quality methodologies and technology.
