This position is responsible for leading proof of concept projects and communicating findings that are transferable to impacted business units in the Performance Coatings Group (PCG) for products profitability and market differentiation.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead proof of concept projects, determine fit and feasibility of new materials, technologies, and methods coming from emerging technology sources, supplier innovations, internal polymer development, and raw material risk reduction opportunities for PCG divisions.
- Interact with Division R&D teams in all regions. Conduct proof of concept projects based on business needs.
- Engage analytical & materials science teams in proof of concept projects and leverage their expertise to make recommendations to the divisions.
- Create clear summaries of all learnings and recommendations. Support a smooth transfer/training of proof of concept work into division projects where fit and feasibility has been demonstrated.
- Work with legal to file appropriate IP generated in proof of concept projects.
- Provide mentorship to chemists working on proof of concept projects, assisting them in the appropriate design of experiments and testing.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial coating formulation, application, and testing
- Good understanding of polymer structure and property relationships
- Good understanding of coating chemistry/crosslinking reactions and curing mechanisms
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in Organic chemistry, Polymer chemistry, Material Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of coating experience in Automotive, Protective & Marine, Industrial Wood, General Industrial, Coil, or Packaging
- Knowledge and experience with analytical and materials science tools
