RANGE TECHNICIAN

General Purpose:
Ensure all Production Range and Assembly equipment is properly maintained and operational.

Shift:
Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
(other duties may be assigned):
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic systems to diagnose and repair faulty equipment, parts, and systems.
  • Follows and develops preventative maintenance plan in coordination with the Range Master.
  • Meticulously inspect and test new and existing equipment to ensure proper function according to set specifications.
  • Performs preventative, situational, and planned maintenance on production machinery and equipment.
  • Perform routine daily maintenance observations on all Assembly and Production Range equipment and facilities to assure it is operational and collect data to achieve predictive maintenance plan.
  • Ability to schedule and inform of planned downtime, respective maintenance, and repair with Assembly and Test Fire Range leadership.
  • Monitors and assists with replenishment of spare parts inventory within the department.
  • Ensure all maintenance of the Test Fire Range ventilation system is scheduled and performed.
  • Verify the calibrations of the Test Fire Ranges.
  • Must have a working knowledge on the proper use of tools such as a multimeter, calipers, soldering iron, and other various mechanics equipment.
  • Safely handle a firearms on the test fire range..
  • Responsible for understanding and executing emergency procedures involving weapons malfunctions.
  • Must possess and utilize extensive knowledge of all targeting equipment and systems including the operating software.
  • Will assist in the training of employees on the operation of Test Fire Range equipment.
  • Will report abnormalities involving facility, equipment, or personnel to supervisor.
  • Must pay close attention to detail from start to finish.
  • Flexible on schedule and workload, willing and eager to learn new things.
  • In coordination with the Maintenance Department, use of end mill, lathe, welder, and other shop equipment as needed.
  • Maintain the highest level of safety and cleanliness in and around the Assembly and Production Range.
  • Supports all LEAN activities in the Production Range area, especially the sustainable execution and implementation of 5S principles (order and cleanliness) and continuous process improvement (stable processes) based on KAIZEN principles to achieve highest quality standards.
  • Ensures compliance with legal and company ordinances in his/her areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures compliance to ISO-, OSHA-, and Environmental Protection regulations and ensures the highest safety standards in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Keeps his/her standard of knowledge up to date in his/her area of responsibility through continuing education measures.
  • Contributes to ongoing company development and increasing competitiveness in conjunction with superiors; carries out corresponding activities in his/her area of responsibility.

Advanced communication skills and leadership skills, problem solving skills, basic knowledge of Lean manufacturing, quality control, and ISO 9000, English, German optional. Excellent mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills is necessary. The ability to use measurement devices such as calipers, micrometers, inspection gauges and other measuring tools is required.

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum 2-5 years of related experience or combination of training and experience

Experienced in DC / AC electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic repair and troubleshooting, reading of machine prints – electrical, pneumatic, PLC (Siemens).

Experienced in electrical and mechanical machine repair.

Previous firearms experience preferred.

Must be a self-starter that can work alone with minimal supervision, follow instructions, and keep track of numerous tasks

Microsoft Office.

Must have good mathematical skills and good knowledge of the metric system.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Licenses and Certifications:
A GLOCK Armorer Certificate or Certificate from a credited Gunsmith School, and/or experience in maintenance repair of pistols or in handling pistols/firearms is a plus.

NRA Range Safety and/or Firearm Training Certification is preferred.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use fingers and hands to install parts, clean, and maintain equipment. Employee is also required to lift boxes up to 50 lbs. Personal safety and protective equipment is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to qualified employees or applicants with disabilities.

Works with and around greases, oils, coolants, and cleaning solutions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift or move parts with an approximate weight up to a maximum weight of 50 lbs. Work requires bending, stooping, kneeling, ladder climbing, and working in small, Cramped areas. Personal protective equipment is required and provided. Must be able to walk in excess of 10,000 steps per day.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as grease, oils, chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud. While performing job duties, the employee is exposed to lead in a controlled and monitored environment.
