Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- The perioperative nurse specializes in the peri-operative care intraoperatively and provides nursing care to the surgical patient.
- Responsible to promote safe care for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures using evidence based practice as outlined by AORN.
- The RN is expected to function proficiently in the circulator and/or scrub roles within the OR and be competent in all surgical specialties served.
- The perioperative RN circulator delegates, supervises, and evaluates the activities of other team members while simultaneously executing immediate directives and interventions in urgent or emergent situations.
- The RN maintains proficiency in the use of all surgical equipment as well as tissue and implant management.
- The RN assures the sterility of the surgical field is maintained and all instrumentation related to the surgical procedure is used safely according to manufacturer's guidelines.
- The surgical specialties include cardiac, cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, vascular, endovascular, orthopedic, orthopedic arthroscopy, podiatry, urology, ophthalmology, general surgery and endoscopy, robotic surgery, and gynecology. The Veteran population served encompasses inpatient and outpatient surgery.
- The Operating Room nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on surgical procedure.
- Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the peri-operative continuum of care.
- Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences when caring for the patient in the surgical theatre. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines, and in collaboration with AORN guidelines.
- Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary surgical team.
- Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives, AORN guidelines, as well as customer service programs.

Pay: $54,995.00 - $129,821.00 per year
