Job Summary
The Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Research Associate. This position is funded from external sources, and continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds. This is a research and outreach job involving professional and technical work in the study of producing and utilizing biochar for sustainable agriculture.

Essential Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist principal investigator
- Assists in the development of project proposals, plans and protocols
- Perform and supervise biochar research activities
- Summarize data from research and stakeholder engagements
- Assist in writing proposals for further extramural funding
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for publication
- Perform various other duties as assigned by supervisor with regards to low-carbon agriculture practices.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Level I: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or Agriculture; no experience required.
Level II: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or Agriculture and 2 years experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Level III: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or Agriculture and 4 years experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Minimum Skills and Abilities
Candidates should have documented experience and/or the ability to conduct job duties in environmental science and sustainable agriculture. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, demonstrated technical excellence and ability to work both independently and in a team environment are necessary.

Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include additional technical experience; research experience and knowledge in bioenergy and sustainable agriculture; various analytical instruments such as GC, GC/MS, HPLC, FTIR/NIR, TGA; and knowledge/experience with chemical and biochemical laboratory procedures.
