Job Summary

The Research Scientist will perform research on cell signaling, cell migration, and transcription using the Drosophila model system.

Essential Job Duties

• Independently perform molecular, genetic, cell biological, and biochemical approaches to understand ligand-receptor interactions and their functions in vivo.
• Multiple techniques will be used including genome engineering, Drosophila transgenesis, cloning and in situ hybridization.
• Participate in weekly lab group meetings where research data are presented in addition to discussion of scientific literature.
• Assist with initiating and securing research funding (e.g. preparation of grant proposals).
• Work collaboratively while performing research.
• General lab management including organization/upkeep of lab reagents and equipment.

Basic Qualifications

• PhD in biological sciences with 5 years of relevant experience; including preparation of research manuscripts and grant proposals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in molecular biology approaching (cloning, genome engineering) as well as use of the Drosophila model system (genetics, transgenesis, in situ hybridization).
• Experience with cell culture and/or bioinformatics is a plus.
