Resident Engineer

We’re currently on the lookout for a Resident Engineer who will be responsible for the development of the thermal management in Nikola’s Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle platforms.
Responsibilities:
  • Support manufacturing in resolving thermal system design issues found on production line to keep production line in operation.
  • Main point of contact and first to review issues with thermal systems integration identified during build process.
  • Confer with manufacturing, quality and validation teams. Help clarify design intent. Ensure correct routing and retention of thermal hoses.
  • Develop solutions to improve product quality and manufacturability in Coolidge.
  • Author engineering deviations for temporary fixes to maintain assembly line uptime while permanent solutions are developed by DREs.
  • Responsible for delivering ICAs. Support and advise on PCAs. Support RCA. This is for both prototype and production builds.
  • Diagnose build issues to differentiate between manufacturing problems, supplier problems, and design problems.
  • Work with DREs to help drive permanent closures to issues.
  • Coordinate and perform trials for product improvements on the production line.
  • Create 3D cad using Catia v6 to review and/or create parts assemblies. First to review clash and clearance issues found at EOL checks. Create design proposals.
  • Work with fabrication and machine shops for creating parts, fixtures gages for interim solutions. Knowledge of machining, sheet metal bending and 3D printing is a plus.
  • Attend supplier meetings. Help close loop with lessons learned, being at forefront of issue discovery.
  • Coordinate and define part reworks both in Coolidge and Chandler.
  • Help maintain part availability for prototype builds and validation.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of work experience in Automotive industries
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline
  • Creating the requirements from the ground up, using engineering analysis
  • Experience with model-based design; creating control systems and models with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Versed in software development, hardware testing, and production procurement timelines
  • Previous experience with design according to ISO 26262 with focus on functional safety
Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada. This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
