Robotics Project Engineer

The Opportunity:

This position is in the Nondestructive Examinations (NDE) Engineering organization, which specializes in designing custom remotely controlled, robotic manipulators and controllers and the associated visual, ultrasonic, or eddy current inspection techniques needed to inspect nuclear reactor plant components. This particular role will focus on working with government customer such as national laboratories to help further clean energy initiatives across the U.S. The project engineer role at Framatome is a leadership role that helps to ensure all engineering work is completed in a well integrated, high quality manner. This position is located in Lynchburg, VA.


What You’ll Do at Framatome:

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team that includes Mechanical, Electrical and Software engineers and a Project Manager
  • Focus on providing high quality technical solutions specifically to government customers (e.g., National Laboratories)
  • Provide technical coordination for all engineering work for first-of-a-kind solutions to meet customer needs
  • Provide technical direction to team members as necessary throughout the project
  • Prepare select technical documents as necessary (e.g., test plans, requirements document, compliance matrices, etc.)
  • Review most project technical drawings and documents to ensure requirements have been met and that the design work is well integrated
  • Lead equipment procurement, assembly, testing and deployment activities
  • Travel to customer sites to deploy new equipment and lead training activities
  • Provide technical support for newly deployed tooling and robotics

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:

  • BS in Eng'g/Eng'g Tech. plus a minimum of 7 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of 4 yr engineering degree.

The following may be used to differentiate candidates who apply for this position:

  • Experience working at government facilities or with government customers such as DOE, Naval Nuclear Laboratory, U.S. national laboratories, etc.
  • Experience leading engineering projects or teams of engineers and a desire to do so
  • Work experience in the nuclear industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including technical writing
  • A pro-active approach to problem identification and resolution
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced atmosphere
  • Strong “hands on” work skills (assembly, equipment / tooling checkout and testing, etc.)
  • Ability to travel sporadically both internationally and domestically

Our total rewards package

The range of base salary for the position is between $106,000 - $143,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
