Application Engineer

Job Description

An Application Engineer with Rotork is responsible for providing application solutions, drawings, and technical support to Inside Sales & Contracts for Key Accounts on all aspects of valve actuators, their applications, with a focus on fluid power and associated controls and accessories. 

Reporting to the Inside Sales & Contracts Supervisor, this role will have the opportunity to collaborate with Inside Sales on complex quotes, overseeing Contracts and Engineering to ensure that the bill of materials in AX for each order is correct. They will also act as a mentor/support resource to the Production Technicians and RSS on assembling and troubleshooting RFS applications.

As training is a key function of this position to help reduce and keep minimal the amount of support required by each department, this role demands a level of training be provided to each group were appropriate. 

Duties: 

  • Support the overall sales effort of the Company by detailing requirements for orders and for new products and product enhancements, communicating “no quotes” to the National Sales Manager, quoting price and delivery by phone, e-mail, and in writing as required.
  • Follow up on all outstanding quotes in a timely manner up to the point of closure as defined by won/lost.  Detail reasons why lost to the National Sales Manager.
  • Responsible for the detailed technical specification of enhanced products.  
  • Define the test specification, special tooling needs and liaison with production cells.  
  • Generate the Bill of Material with input from Design Engineering as required.
  • Responsible for technical evaluation and record keeping of competitive products versus Rotork Instruments product lines, utilizing available laboratory equipment to set up and test product as instructed. 

Qualifications

  • Technical education, a Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred (other engineering fields or equivalent experience will also be considered). 
  • Ability and experience operating computer-aided design (CAD) software, Solid Edge preferable.
  • 5 years’ experience or more in application engineering or inside sales is desired. 
  • Pneumatics/hydraulics applications engineering/controls experience a plus.
