POSITION SUMMARY
BorgWarner is seeking a “dynamic, results-driven” individual for the role of Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Specialist in Hazel Park, Michigan. This person will work with the local EHS team, primarily supporting and completing projects related to Heath and Safety Management program implementation, administration, and auditing, as well as Environmental Management program implementation, compliance, and sustainability. This person will serve as a Champion for Safety in production and act as the voice of the operator for EHS program development.
Performance will be measured on successful completion of projects that help accomplish Departmental objectives. This role will involve significant interaction with a wide variety of functions within BorgWarner and offers the opportunity to gain in-depth experience in EHS management, compliance, and operational excellence.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
EHS Auditing Program
  • Assist with implementation of safety & health policies and procedures.
  • Participate in routine policy and procedure review.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are up to date.
  • Be aware of regulations and regulatory standards which apply to our operation(s).
  • Implement and track corrective actions to close.
  • Assist with safety meetings/training events (public speaking and presentation).
  • Promote safety culture.
  • Participate in near miss and incident reporting and investigation.
  • Maintain and review training records for plant personnel.
  • Present and share safety & health alerts, initiatives, updates, and other information.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.
  • Be the primary liaison with Safety & Health vendors.
  • Assist in managing and coordinating EHS auditing program scheduling, conducting, and corrective action reviewing.
  • Participate in and conduct routine safety audits to identify hazards.
  • Maintain and organize Corrective Action database related to EHS auditing program.
  • Review, distribute, and coordinate the sharing of Good EHS business practices.
  • Assist in reviewing and developing practices, procedures and training related to program.
Environmental Management Systems
  • Assist in Global ISO 14001 plant certification.
  • Assist in Surveillance audits and Certifications audits.
  • Assist in developing and presenting Guidance Documents and Standards regarding EMS.
Enterprise Environmental
  • Collect and analyze data and periodically publish reports on trends.
  • Support Business Unit (BU) Environmental Committee leaders in sharing ideas and processes across BU’s.
Enterprise Sustainability
  • Support enterprise ESG assessments and disclosures requested by customers, investors and other stakeholders.
  • Record assessment scores achieved and maintain assessment dashboard.
  • Maintain Self-Assessment Questionnaire dashboard to ensure access requests and questionnaires are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a detail-oriented, analytical, team player, organizational, and excellent time management skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have good verbal communication (be comfortable interviewing operators an supervisors)
  • Must have good communication skills (able to read, comprehend and proof all written reports and correspondence, good spelling, grammar, and punctuation)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Be able to lift, carry 30 ft, and set down a 25 lb load
  • Willing to travel to local BorgWarner sites around Metro Detroit
  • Valid driver’s license is required

This position will adhere to the Global Star Safety Program, including safety rules, practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner Emissions Tralee Safety Policy Manual. This individual will work in a manner that stresses the importance of preventing accidents and illnesses. He/she must take every precaution reasonable in the given circumstance for the protection of themselves and co-workers. In addition, he/she is responsible for reporting all injuries and/or possible dangerous situations, incidents, or occurrences to their immediate supervisor.
