Job Description:

With the support of a manager and technical coaches, this role designs and implements projects in-line with requirements and effectively communicates project status and risks.
As part of that planning process, the role will conduct activities to generate the appropriate process or product information and run trials and experimental work in accordance with good manufacturing practices and HACCP requirements.
In this role, candidate will assist in planning the effective use of resources and manage stakeholders, making recommendations and influencing decisions based on analysis and interpretation of data. The role will work with other scientists to ensure efficiency and safety of the Ingredient Research Innovation Space, including maintenance of the quality system, making sure that procedures are followed properly, and the highest standards of work and H&S are maintained. This role will have responsibility for the biscuit practical capabilities in addition to supporting the assessment of raw materials to deliver against our crop science research agenda.

Three Key Skills:
  • Able to organise own work to maximise output and capable of working on multiple activities concurrently.
  • Experience of working with bench-top experimental work plans and trials, ideally in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements.
  • Scientific understanding and ability to conduct practical experiments in relevant area under supervision.
Primary Skills Required:
  • Provide high-quality stakeholder engagement at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of samples/prototypes and data generated and timely or accurate provision of results.
  • With the support of a manager and technical coaches, organising and executing a number of small sized projects.
  • Co-ordinating and controlling trials within given deadlines and in accordance with GMP and HACCP requirements.
  • Interpretation of data to deliver results and draw business relevant conclusions.
  • Writing technical reports with guidance from manager.
  • Applying fundamental understanding to analysis of results.
  • Implementing corrective measures when necessary.
  • Ensuring consistency, technical precision and compliance with methods of work.
  • Recommending improvements within department.
  • Create and contribute to maintaining reports within the knowledge management framework.
  • Provide training to peers in routine activities and procedures.
  • Will be expected to work across the different Ingredient Research Teams, if the demand is required.
Additional Skills Preferred:
  • Accountable, honest, hardworking, and able to work efficiently in a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet customer or business requirements.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and an ability to follow written instructions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and quick to learn.
  • Computer literate in standard MS office applications.
Experience Required:
  • Scientific understanding and ability to conduct practical experiments in relevant area under supervision.
Additional Experience Preferred:
  • Experience of working with applying your scientific understanding to experiment planning (formulating hypotheses) and analysis of results (validation of results against hypothesis).
  • Experience of working with bench-top experimental work plans and trials in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements.
Education/ Qualifications Required:
  • Educated to Degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Understanding of Food Science, Food Chemistry or Food Engineering, ideally in a fast-moving consumer goods market.
Additional Education Preferred:
  • Good understanding of relevant process or product technology.
