Security Manager III – Physical Security Management - Administration

The mission of the Allen Institute administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute.

The Security Manager will implement approved policies and procedures governing physical security measures and contract security forces that safeguard Allen Institute occupied facilities, and assets on a daily basis.

Essential Functions

  • Provide recommendations for formation and improvement of site-wide plans, policies and procedures
  • Develop risk-based operational plans for safeguarding the Allen Institute, assets and interests, to include recommendations regarding contract security force size and composition, integration of security systems and installation of appropriate physical measures commensurate with known threats
  • Develop tools required for successful and consistent execution of operational plans
  • Ensure contract security forces completely and successfully execute contract requirements; this includes approval of overtime for special events and tasking
  • Monitor security systems and respond to alarm activations through the contract security force
  • Manage security incident response and notification system
  • Manage daily operations of the security team
  • Report on operational planning and execution
  • Evaluate the PS team’s operational performance and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Identify and recommend training opportunities to ensure the continuous professional development of assigned team members
  • Develop budget recommendations based on requirements for staffing, logistics, training, retention of contract service providers and consultants and other factors impacting PS operations
  • Provide day-to-day management and oversight of PS resources and funds
  • Develop recommendations for adjustments to security force contracts
  • Create programs to comply with policies/procedures, state and federal statutes and regulations related to employee safety
  • Develop and implement site specific drills
  • Develop and manage delivery of training programs that educate and increase employee safety and security awareness; Incident manager for accidents and incidents
  • Maintain partnership with Vulcan affiliates and entities for support network of safety, facilities and security staff for sharing of information; manage affiliates access control
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from accredited institution and eight plus years relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years operational experience working in Physical Security or a related field

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Working technical knowledge of executive protection, maritime security or protective intelligence operations
  • BA/BS degree or Physical Security Professional or equivalent certification
  • Experience managing high-value contracts and contract forces
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage a high-performance team
  • Ability to meet aggressive timelines in a highly dynamic, cross-disciplinary environment
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks independently
  • Experience working on complex, multi-functional project teams
  • Ability to write operational procedures that form the basis of emergency response and disaster recovery plans as well as the ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedural manuals and other types of planning documents
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and evaluate technical security literature product assessments and general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts, consulting proposals and government regulations
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and emergency services agencies
  • Ability to write and effectively deliver training materials to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Strong familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Physical Demands

  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment
  • Stooping, bending, crouching
  • Reaching, or climbing ladders

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is an essential job and expected to report for work regardless of weather and/or other conditions.
  • This role is currently working onsite and is expected to work onsite for the majority of working hours. The primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N., with flexibility to work remotely on a limited basis.

Annualized Salary Range

  • $85,871 - $125,944*
  • Final salary depends on the required education for the role, experience, level of skills relevant to the role, and work location, where applicable.
