Senior Assistant Director, Flagship Events

Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director, the Senior Assistant Director will collaborate with the Director on flagship events to engage the alumni and family communities through thoughtful and strategic programming. The Senior Assistant Director is responsible for the execution and follow-up for all flagship events under the guidance of the Director while assisting as a liaison with key campus partners and outside vendors to ensure the success of these large-scale events. The Senior Assistant Director will collaborate with the Director on specific Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives as it relates to students and alumni of color and first-generation college students and alumni. Works on special projects that further the mission of Bentley alumni and family engagement and advancement. Provides operational support and reviews and enhances processes and programs in support of this work.
Essential Duties
  • Flagship Events: Collaborates on the planning, execution and post-event processes for all flagship events including but not limited to Reunion and Falcon Weekend and makes suggestions for in-person, hybrid and virtual formats.
  • Affinity-Based Programming: Identifies and executes engagement opportunities for affinity-based alumni and family constituencies. Works directly with relevant internal and external stakeholders to create an engagement strategy for First-Gen alumni and families as well as alumni of color.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Assists with collaboration of departments across campus early and often when planning flagship events in order to showcase the vibrant and diverse campus culture and ensure all stakeholders are informed about and involved in relevant programming.
  • Regularly assess programs via metrics and benchmarking with similar institutions.
  • Assists the Director with short and long-term strategic planning and execution, staff and budgetary management.
  • Works with the communications team to help conceive and design marketing strategies to promote engagement, events and programs.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 2 years of alumni engagement and/or development experience, or equivalent transferable experience.
  • Ability to travel to regions across the country.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver’s license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley’s insurance carrier.
  • Experience planning and executing large-scale events of 300+ attendees
  • Demonstrated creative planning, organizational, and project management skills; self-motivated and able to set priorities and manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Collaborative and collegial approach to working with teams; ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail with demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education preferable.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning new systems and ability to manipulate and analyze data to inform department decision-making.
  • Experience managing programs independently, making process improvements, and reimagining large-scale events and/or engagement opportunities for parents/families.
Work Environment
  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work
  • Ability to travel to work related events and meetings both on and off campus; travel may occur outside normal business hours including nights and weekends
