Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Benefits Administrator is an innovative and resourceful HR professional specializing in benefits strategy, management, communication, and administration under the Total Rewards umbrella. The position conducts new-hire benefits training, leads open enrollment, and collaborates with vendors and brokers in managing benefit plans. This position handles all administrative functions related to employee benefit plans and programs, such as eligibility, communication and education, enrollment, systems and processes, regulatory compliance, and reporting requirements.

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

  • Anticipated starting salary of $80,000; pay rate negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Functional:
  • Primary resource for benefits administration, employee questions and broker interaction
  • Creates, manages and facilitates benefits education program for institution
  • Identifies ways to solicit employee feedback on benefits — e.g., surveys, forums, etc.
  • Establishes benefits benchmarks and KPIs and identify ways to surpass expectations
  • Creates benefits fairs, virtual or live, to provide employees with direct access to vendors
  • Routinely scans market for competitive benefits offerings to round out Total Rewards package
  • Partners with compensation team on developing impactful Total Rewards that attract candidates and retains employees
  • Partners with Wellness & Wellbeing on impactful, immersive, and innovative whole-body initiatives
  • Provides tools for People Operations to address frontline employee questions
  • Establishes and updates key benefits resources for employees
  • Partners with Marketing, Communications and Talent Acquisition to promote special and differentiated Total Rewards offerings
  • Creates and drives annual open enrollment
  • Provides benefits reporting as needed
  • Researches and stays abreast of related state and federal laws and regulations related to employee benefits
  • Supports the larger Total Rewards strategy as requested
Support Institutional Initiatives:
  • Keeps current with institutional goals, objectives and progress
  • Engages in institutional sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate
  • Leads with courage in support of change initiatives that impact the organization
  • Assists in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA
Compliance:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE (Commission for Independent Education), and internal UMA policies and procedures
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department

Minimum Requirements:
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in the development, implementation, and administration of benefits programs
  • Experience with self-funded health insurance plans
  • Working knowledge of current employment laws and regulations impacting benefits programs
  • Comfortable performing at a high (SME) level with autonomy and authority
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Ability to track and process information in a high-volume environment
  • Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Ability to collaborate across the organization
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all situations
Preferred Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
  • Online enrollment and HRIS integration experience
  • Human Resources certification through HRCI or SHRM
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)
  • Experience with UKG is preferred
Working Environment:
  • Remote role with occasional, planned onsite or travel requirements
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
Physical Demands:
  • Requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
  • Requires occasional bending, stooping, and squatting
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
