Senior Director of Marketing and Public Relations

Purpose of Position:

The Sr. Director of Marketing and Public Relations is responsible for developing and implementing the marketing, communications, outreach and public relations strategies and campaigns for the Chapter, ensuring a positive image and consistent message is maintained through all internal and external communications.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Plans, reviews, and implements an annual marketing plan, including strategies and actions directly related to management of marketing, communications, chapter events, and media relations efforts for the chapter, emphasizing increasing positive, regional-level news exposure.

· Creates, oversees and/or edits with independent judgment all written and electronic promotional materials of significance, including but not limited to:

· advertising and marketing campaigns

· general promotional collateral materials

· special event and fundraising collateral

· public service campaigns

· story pitching statewide.

· speeches, scripts and programs

· content for the Chapter’s website and social media websites

· social media strategy and creation over all social media channels

· annual report content

· Develops and reviews cooperatively with the Chief Development Officer and Development team all communications related to development activities including (but not limited to):

· Direct Mail

· E-Mail Blasts

· Donor Acknowledgements

· Stewardship communications

· Develops and reviews cooperatively with the Vice President of Mission Delivery and the Program team all communications related to development activities including (but not limited to):

· Direct Mail

· E-Mail Blasts

· General Wish Planning/Mission Communications

· Medical Outreach Communications

· Develops and follows an annual budget for all activities related to public relations and marketing.

· Writes and distributes press releases and maintains relationships with media outlets that affect chapter events, wishes, and relationships.

· Serves as the Chapter’s media point of contact and spokesperson and assists wish children and families with their media interactions.

· Protects the brand by providing overall guidance and direction on Make-A-Wish Arizona’s crisis communications function, ensuring proper use and protection of Make-A-Wish marks in the local market, and ensuring chapter-wide adherence to approved identity standards.

· Identifies and communicates to chapter leadership all potential opportunities and/or relationships that will increase the Chapter’s ability to raise funds and grant wishes.

· Works with the Chief Development Officer and the Corporate Giving team, identifies, cultivates, and maximizes cause-related marketing opportunities.

· Identifies challenges and recommends solutions to senior leadership; balances competing priorities while working collaboratively with colleagues.

· Serves as liaison with committees, Boards, Make-A-Wish America (MAWA), and others on all public relations, marketing, and publicity activities and campaigns.

· Attends meetings of the Make-A-Wish Arizona Board of Directors and staff committees as directed.

· Attends all major chapter events and appropriate volunteer and donor recognition/stewardship events as the marketing and communications relations contact.

· Adheres to all Governing Policies, Performance Standards and Guidelines of MAWFA. as well as Chapter internal controls, policies and procedures.

· Assist Program Team with wish-granting activities based on seasonal fluctuations in wish delivery workloads.

· Assist Development Team with events and other fundraising activities based on seasonal needs.

Other Duties/Responsibilities

· Manage relationships with outside vendors for branded materials and promotional items.

· Conducts periodic assessments of relationships with the Chapter’s community connections.

· Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

· Strong familiarity with Arizona media outlets and management of crisis communications.

· Exceptionally strong writing skills, demonstrated by a portfolio of written public relations or journalism materials.

· Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple complex projects on tight deadlines.

· Strong organizational skills and the characteristics of a detail and results-oriented team player.

· Ability to attend events after work hours or over weekends.

· A highly professional demeanor, able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents, including donors, board members, volunteers, and professional consultants.

· High levels of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion, and humor are necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.

· Able to be exposed to inclement and outdoor weather while participating in media, fundraising, or events.

· Ability to sit and type at a keyboard for long periods.

· Ability to read and review small print.

· Reliable and predictable attendance.

· Means and ability to travel throughout the state of Arizona as needed and required.

Training/Education:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, or related field.

· Strong computer skills with familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite and an understanding of the fundamentals of electronic mail and the Internet.

· Familiarity with database management software, preferably Raiser’s Edge and Salesforce.

Experience:

· Seven to ten years of experience in a similar leadership role is required.

· Previous non-profit experience is preferred.

· Experience and high level of comfort communicating in person or using telecommunications equipment with small and large groups.

Pay: $38,206.82 - $130,664.74 per year
