We are Emerging Technologies and Incubations (ET&I) at Cisco. We are chartered to build the next new business for Cisco. We take Cisco into new markets, and especially towards new personas—both buyer and user.

What You'll Do

You will be a researcher in the Cisco Research team that conducts fundamental research on emerging areas of strategic interest to Cisco. As part of the team, you are encouraged to make fundamental contributions to research, develop new intellectual property through patents, develop working prototypes of systems, publish papers in conferences and journals, and help productize key technologies that are developed in the group. In addition, you will be participating in our university research collaborations on sponsored research projects, including providing direction, guidance to the investigators to align the projects better with Cisco’s needs. You will also be expected to exhibit agility in rapidly ramping up in new areas of technology as strategic directions of interest to Cisco evolve.

The Emerging Technologies and Incubation (ET&I) team is a highly visible group within Cisco. ET&I focuses on the next wave of innovation by anticipating, investing in, and incubating new technologies and business ventures.

You will be part of the Incubation team in the US, to develop new solutions, and bring them to market in a startup like environment.

Who You Are

Our Minimum Requirements for this role:

• PhD in Computer Science/Statistics or related fields
• 5+ years of research experience including writing papers in top conferences and/or journals
• Proficient in one or many of the following languages (C++, Java, Python)
• Experience in technologies related to data management such as data lakes/meshes, databases, data analytics and storage architectures and/or AI/ML
• Experience providing technical leadership to a team is a requirement for this job
• 2+ years of production-quality software development experience is a plus
• Experience in distributed systems is preferred

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
