Position: Senior Applications Scientist
Location: San Diego or Menlo Park, CA
We are seeking a talented Applications Scientist to join our Customer Support Team. This Applications Scientist’s primary responsibility is to support existing customers with the execution of PacBio sequencing workflows. This position will involve extensive customer interactions to troubleshoot customer issues, provide technical support and training, and guide customers through the use and application of our products.
Responsibilities:

Provide technical support to customers via training, troubleshooting and experimental design consultation.

Assist customers and local account teams with technical consultation to troubleshoot and resolve molecular biology, sample prep, sequencing, and applications-related inquiries/complaints.

Support customer projects and acting as a primary liaison between the company and our customers.

Log and manage cases using Salesforce CRM. Triage, redirect and escalate as needed for timely case resolution. Liaise with internal groups (R&D, Customer Experience and Product Marketing) to support Field Applications Scientists and Field Service Engineers.

Triage and dispatch issues requiring field support to FAS and FSE.

Open JIRA cases as needed for escalated field issues. Conduct deeper investigation via data mining and/or wet lab experiments to elucidate root cause for escalated cases.

Monitor field trends, identify product usability issues, report product deficiencies, and capture new feature requests. Serve as voice of customer and voice of Field to provide critical feedback for the continuous improvement of PacBio products.

Train customer support teams on important field issues and related mitigation/resolution strategies.

Represent our Customers, Field and Technical Support Teams on Core Teams in the development and delivery of new products and applications.
Requirements:

Normally requires a PhD in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience; may include post-doctoral experience. Alternatively, Masters with 5-8 years of relevant a B.S. in a scientific discipline with 7-10 years of related experience.

Extensive expertise in all modalities of short-read and long-read sequencing, and familiarity with various applications of short-read and long-read sequencing.

Extensive experience in sequencing sample preparation including DNA extraction, library preparation, and sequencing strongly preferred.
You may be required from time to time to visit and work at PacBio locations and for such times as the Company considers necessary for the proper performance of your duties.

Salary Range:
$108,800.00 - $147,200.00
