We're on a mission to build the best platform in the world for engineers to understand and scale their systems, applications, and teams. We operate at high scale—trillions of data points per day—allowing for seamless collaboration and problem-solving among Dev, Ops and Security teams globally for tens of thousands of companies. Our culture values pragmatism, honesty, and simplicity to solve hard problems the right way.
The Team:
The Security Research team at Datadog performs research and development in Cloud Security, DevSecOps and Threat Research to further equip Datadog customers with the best protection against threat actors targeting their production infrastructure. As part of the overall Security Research organization, you will join a diverse team of hackers and builders who launch impactful security products and research via cross-company collaboration, partnerships with the security community and open source initiatives.
We are looking for a Senior/Staff Security Researcher to be a subject matter expert for the Datadog security product portfolio. This portfolio uses existing Datadog observability data and techniques to easily integrate security events into existing customer deployments. We’re taking a new approach to cloud security at Datadog by leveraging detailed observability data in a cloud-native way. This detailed observability data has been used by DevOps and Software Engineering teams successfully since our inception, and now Datadog is helping Security teams with their use case.
The Opportunity:
As a Security Researcher, you will work directly with the Director of Security Research on identifying and executing the strategic areas of research for Datadog. You will help build and execute research programs that will provide key insights to our Product and Engineering teams to scale out improvements or new offerings for our Security product suite. Your research will be used to protect customers, build new areas of revenue for Datadog and will provide thought-leadership to the security community.
You Will:
Build and advocate for research projects for the overall Research roadmap with internal stakeholders, such as the CISO, VP of Product and the Director of Security Research
Create and collaborate with Engineering & Product on proof of concept products, services, tools and simulations to demonstrate new capabilities and protections in Datadog environments
Work closely with our Community team to develop thought-leadership research content for blogs, webinars and conferences
Build partnerships with external organizations dedicated to advancing cybersecurity for the world
Track, research and experiment with the latest tactics, techniques & procedures for attacking and defending integrated production environments with Datadog
Serve as a subject matter expert for Product Management, Detection Engineering & Engineering and can assist with product development and architecture
Think like an adversary and perform threat hunts in new sources to find evidence of attacks
Talk to highly technical customers about their security, listen to their needs, and work with the team to solve their problems
You Are:
You have deep knowledge of any of the following in the information security field: Cloud Security, DevSecOps, Linux, Web Application Security
You are very comfortable with building out proof-of-concept services, which include writing and testing code (e.g. Go, Python, Ruby), deploying code to cloud environments and monitoring of these services
You are comfortable with taking ambiguous requirements and creating a research plan, with measurable and tangible outcomes, as well as getting buy-in on the plan from stakeholders. Working with OKRs in the past is a plus
You are passionate about collaborating with stakeholders like detection engineers, product management, software engineers, customers and other researchers
You believe in making an impact to Datadog customers by protecting them from threat actors
You are eager to collaborate with your teammates, colleagues and the community
You want to work with other humble researchers, product managers and engineers to make an impact to not only our customers but the community
Why You Should Apply:
