Senior Systems Analyst

Calvin University's Information Services, led by the Associate CIO, is currently seeking a Senior Systems Analyst to join our team. As a Senior Systems Analyst/Systems Architect, your primary responsibility will be to understand the organization's business requirements and collaborate with various stakeholders to deliver technology-based solutions of high quality. This role entails configuring and supporting key computer applications, including Workday and Salesforce to effectively address the specific needs of Calvin University. You will be involved in business systems analysis, project management support, application support, and communication with different departments across the campus.
We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Analyst who can contribute to our goals of Workday and Salesforce adoption, operational excellence, and continuous enhancement of the user experience. Your expertise and dedication will play a crucial role in achieving these objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Work across Workday functional areas, and with partner organizations to directly support the design and development of Workday HCM, Financials and Student functionality.
  • Research, design, and deliver system changes in response to emerging Workday technologies, customer requests, and mandated operational changes to HR, Payroll, Finance or Student operations.
  • Lead discussions and requirements gathering sessions with business and technology partners to elicit, define, and understand detailed requirements, priorities, impacts, objectives, and other insights to implement new technologies or business solutions.
  • Excellent problem solving and investigative skills. Ability to anticipate and recognize potential for errors and areas for improvement within processes/reports/systems. Ability to deliver solutions that are strategic, sustainable, analytical, and creative.
  • Provide end user support by developing documentation, answering questions, and facilitating efficient use of systems to contribute to a functional working environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills including the ability to interpret complex policies and procedures and communicate technical information to all levels (technical and non-technical end users) of the organization.
  • Ability to use discretion, good judgement, and maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information.
  • Ability to manage a workload with changing priorities and varying stakeholder interests.
  • Effective as a team player (with ability to work with different levels and units) as well as ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • More than two years of experience performing progressively more complex and responsible tasks involving support of enterprise applications and services.
  • Experience working with Cloud-based ERP systems such as Workday or Salesforce desired.
  • Programming experience building custom applications, data integrations, or scripting.
  • Fosters a culture of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Effective written and oral communication with internal as well as external customers.
  • Experience with business process modeling and diagramming complex system architectures.
  • Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (B.A) from a four-year college or university; three to five year’s experience in the field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
This position requires the ability to work with vendors; communicate with computer novices, programmers, and system engineers; write and edit reports and technical documents; coordinate the work of others; perform other activities requiring a comparable level of communication skills. This position also requires planning, supervising, and appraising the work of others and handles highly sensitive and/or confidential information.
COMPLEXITY
The position requires the ability to solve problems and to deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Instructions may be furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The position has the authority, if approved, to act or make recommendations that will affect procedures, processes, and practices involving customers or employees in other departments.
DECISION MAKING/JUDGMENT
The responsibilities of this position typically involve projects and/or assignments with considerable decision-making authority regarding procedures, plans, and schedules.

  • Past work experience in Higher Education desired.
  • Understanding of Workday and/or Salesforce desired.
  • Creativity and the ability to solve complex problems considering business and system requirements.
  • Exhibits the ability to work on concurrent projects and to work with a reasonable degree of autonomy in support of team initiatives.
  • Must have logical thought process and the ability to understand business-computing practices.
  • Good organization and leadership skills are needed.
  • Strong analytical skills, thorough, detailed oriented
  • SQL experience desired
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge related to business operations and product specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, facilitation & communications skills
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The position requires occasional participation with peers or customers and deals with items of a routine nature with frequent supervision. Participants address common issues and present information beneficial and routine to resolving problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work in this position is performed within routine office conditions, usually without exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Visual demands include:
1. Proofreading and checking documents for accuracy.
2. Using a keyboard for entering and retrieving data.
3. Closely observing monitoring devices for 2 hours or more.
Compensation for this position will be $75,000 annually. Calvin University offers a full spectrum of benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Health Savings Account, Life Insurance, 30 days of Paid Time Off per year, Holidays, Tuition Support and many other employee benefits.
