Senior Technical Artist - Rigging - XDefiant

Job Description


As a Senior Technical Artist - Rigging, you will work in close collaboration with animators, modelers, and the artistic director in order to produce high-quality rigging and skinning for animation with an additional emphasis on facial rigging. Additionally, you may be called upon to review rigging and skinning for other Technical Artists.

You’ll also be part of the diverse Ubisoft San Francisco team. We embrace a variety of work situations based on what is best for the team, and we welcome people working in our SF office, remotely within the continental US, or some combination of the two. We put a priority on supporting our team members and what makes them happiest and most productive.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Establish facial rigging pipeline and standards incorporating existing technology from other Ubisoft studios and projects as necessary
  • Provide feedback to other Technical Artists for rigging and skinning tasks
  • Recognize proper mesh topology as well as repair and/or give feedback to the Modeling Department or outsourcing
  • Based on the models provided by the Modeling Department, carry out the rigging and skinning of weapons or characters to meet the needs of project animators and of the technical and artistic directors
  • Propose and implement tools to produce the best possible results and incorporate them into the project’s game engine
  • Implement control rigs to foster and simplify the work of animators
  • Ensure the final result (rigging/skinning) meets the artistic standards of the project

Qualifications


WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Advanced experience in video game production or equivalent
  • Expert-level knowledge of Maya and/or Motionbuilder
  • Experience maintaining a facial rigging pipeline
  • Python scripting for Maya/Motionbuilder tools
  • Knowledge of the limitations of game engines and production needs

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of Substance Painter and PBR workflows/constraints
  • Knowledge of 3DSMax

The San Francisco base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000 - $150,000. The base pay offered may vary based on a candidate’s geographic region, qualifications, skills and experience among other factors. Compensation details reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, stock options, or benefits.
