Senior Technical Product Manager

As a product manager at Socotra, you will play a critical role in defining and developing the Socotra product and creating features and functionality that excites customers as they see their wants and needs being met and exceeded. This role reports directly to the VP of Product, who reports to the CEO.

Examples of what you’ll be working on:

  • You’re willing to get your hands dirty with highly detail-oriented tasks, but you are able to step back and make meaningful contributions to high level discussions with regard to how Socotra’s product is aligned with our strategic goals and how it creates value for our customers
  • You have the business and technical acumen required to act as an effective liaison between the engineering org and the business team
  • You have the emotional intelligence, work ethic, and intellect to build constructive working relationships across teams with different roles and responsibilities
  • You’re passionate about solving challenging problems and devising creative solutions to build a platform that meets the needs of our customers

You will:

  • Building strong partnerships and collaborating with the business and engineering teams to drive product strategy
  • Guiding the prioritization of potential product initiatives to optimize their alignment with our business/revenue strategy and the value to our current or future customers
  • Working closely with the engineering team to understand the effort required in executing a given product initiative
  • Engaging with customers directly to better understand their requirements and translate those requirements into user stories for the engineering team
  • Writing documentation for the latest features we’ve built

You may be a good fit if:

  • You have 7+ years of experience doing Product Management, primarily in enterprise software
  • You get your hands dirty with highly detail-oriented tasks, but you also step back and understand and develop strategic goals that create value for our customers
  • You have the business and technical acumen to act as an effective liaison between the engineering and business teams
  • You’re passionate about solving challenging problems and devising creative solutions to build a platform that meets the needs of our customers
  • You’re willing and able to develop a deep understanding of Socotra’s platform, configuration, and APIs, and design the next versions of each
  • You thrive in a fast-moving startup with incomplete information and competing priorities
  • You have three or more of the following (and readiness to learn the others):
  • Proven project or program management skills, including the ability to work with the engineering team to produce estimates and provide visibility for stakeholders to manage expectations with customers
  • Deep UI / UX design instincts and experience
  • Fundamental programming experience in a language like Java, Javascript, Python, or C#
  • Experience designing clean, intuitively structured APIs for public-facing web services
  • Domain experience in property and casualty or life insurance, or other financial services
  • Experience writing high-quality public-facing documentation

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience at a high-performing Internet/software company
  • Prior experience in insurance

This position can be based in San Francisco or remote and includes salary and equity commensurate with experience.
