What you’ll do
This role is within one of Flatiron’s cross-functional Spotlight teams, which curate customized datasets and perform analytics focused on answering a life sciences partner’s specific research questions. Specifically, this role will be embedded within the Non-Regulatory Spotlight team, which scope, execute, and deliver custom datasets and provide analytic services to assist with drug development and decision making across a variety of use-cases such as HEOR, Commercial pricing and reimbursement strategies, HTA, drug discovery and biomarker research, and clinical development. These research projects mostly come from our life science partners, however, extensive scientific collaborations with clients is needed. For example, the Quantitative Science team lead will either author or review protocol, take the lead in writing SAPs and engage with life science partners in addressing research questions/issues. They will be expected to lead Flatiron in
technical/statistical/analytical discussions with life science partners. Furthermore, as a lead, you will work with your Quantitative Sciences team members to answer some of the most important questions in cancer research and drug development using Flatiron’s unique, large real-world dataset. As a leader on this team, you will:
- Manage and lead a team of quantitative scientists, including mentorship, performance management, and career development
- Will be an active member of the Spotlight leadership team, collaborating closely with clinical leads and other cross-functional leads providing strategic and technical leadership across ongoing and upcoming projects. Provide high-level QS oversight across all projects within the West Coast Spotlight team, as well as be responsible for your own deliverables that include aspects such as defining and clarifying analytic requirements, developing analysis plans and novel methods, and interfacing with life science partners and key stakeholders as well as hands-on interaction with the data and/or analyses (e.g., coding in R)
- Lead and contribute to various scientific and strategic initiatives towards growth and efficiency of the Spotlight business, such as process improvement, tooling efforts or claims-linkage analyses
- Drive and lead strategy for life science partners engagement efforts including opportunities to collaborate on scientific research
- Collaborate with a team of oncologists, product and operation managers, clinical data experts, regulatory and compliance specialists, and software engineers to discuss scoping of new projects, escalation of project issues, ensuring data quality standards, and help develop the team’s strategic vision
- Evaluate QS resourcing needs for current and future projects and specify optimal resourcing in collaboration with management
- Develop and manage relationships with external partners including life science companies, academic institutions and health technology assessment bodies to advance the integration of our analytic products through demonstrated value.
- As a senior QS team member, have a leadership presence at scientific conferences and meetings by making presentations, organizing sessions, and leading discussions that advance the field of Real-World Evidence (RWE) research
Who You Are
You are an analytical thinker with 5+ years of work experience in an academic or industry setting. You are excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You are a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact.
- You hold a Masters or PhD in a quantitative discipline such as biostatistics, epidemiology, applied statistics, health economics, or a related discipline
- You have have people management experience and experience leading teams, overseeing multiple projects and working with a broad set of cross-functional stakeholders
- You have experience conducting analyses, writing SAPs, interpreting results for a variety of use-cases and projects
- You have experience working with a variety of RWD such as longitudinal EMR, registres and/or Claims data
- You have strong technical expertise in at least one category such as statistical/methodological considerations for Observational data, Claims data, and/or automation/tooling
- You have experience working with life sciences companies or health-related government agencies (e.g., CDC, NIH, or FDA)
- You have good coding skills, ideally in R
- You are a natural teacher; you have a passion for mentoring and teaching those of various backgrounds and levels of experience
- You have the ability to juggle multiple external interactions and deadlines simultaneously and the adaptability to collaborate with individuals at all levels and functions
- You have excellent written and oral communication skills and a deep attention to detail
- You are willing to travel (approximately 5-10%)
