Reports to: Service Manager
Purpose:
Participate in on-the-job training and work to obtain a two-year Diesel Technician associate’s degree program focused on the fundamentals and key technical concepts to become effective service technician.
Responsibilities:
o Complete two years of instructor-led classroom and lab training and meet minimum 3.0 GPA while participating in the program
o Complete a minimum of two internships at the dealership
o Obtain certification in Electrical, Hydraulics and Service Advisor training
o Complete the total number of John Deere University credits as required
o Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
o Complete all reports and forms required in conjunction with job assignments
o Assist senior technicians as needed
o Perform basic service tasks as assigned
o Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly fashion
o Account for all time and material used in performing assigned duties
o Develop skills in removal, disassembly, and reconditioning of components
o May perform pre-delivery set-up and inspection on new equipment
Requirements:
o Maintain minimum 3.0 GPA
o Interest in learning methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair of outdoor power equipment/agricultural equipment
o Fundamental knowledge of engines, hydraulics, power-trains, air-conditioning, and electrical systems as they apply to machines marketed by the dealership
o Ability to read, write, and speak effectively with customers and/or other employees
o Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. repeatedly
o Willingness to learn and work hard
o High School Diploma or equivalent experience required
o Valid driver’s license required
o Fork lift license preferred
Expectations & Performance Requirements
o 50% minimum labor performance
o Minimum 30 hours/week working alongside mentor
o Minimum 4 hours/week self-training
