Simulation Coordinator for the School of Nursing

Rasmussen University

The Simulation Coordinator will provide instructional support of the day-to-day operations within the Nursing simulation space and is responsible for the preparation, operation, and overall maintenance of all simulation equipment and supplies, including simulators, manikins, control devices, and audio-visual equipment where applicable. This individual will work in collaboration with the National Simulation Director, Campus Simulation Champion, Nursing Leadership, Campus Director, faculty, and students to promote excellence in simulation education.

Responsibilities:


Simulation Center Operations – 80%


  • Coordinates the delivery of all simulation activities.
  • Prepare, set up, break down, clean up and restock the simulation, VR, debrief rooms and additional teaching spaces before and after all simulation activities.
  • Maintains simulation equipment -manikins, simulators, task trainers, SimPads, Instructor PCs, monitors, VR technology - to the extent that these items are kept in good working condition for optimal utilization.
  • Organizes and maintains storeroom environments, hallways, and control rooms.
  • Support faculty with operation of equipment, providing hands-on training as needed.
  • Collaborates with the National Simulation Director to maintain records related to equipment warranties and maintenance plans.
  • Assists with coordinating regular maintenance and repair all simulation equipment.
  • Provide learner and faculty orientation to the simulator, manikin, environment- including equipment, supplies, monitors, etc.
  • Track and maintain inventory and supplies.
  • Stores, receives, and stocks equipment and supplies.
  • Provide campus tours and community outreach events as requested.
  • Participates in simulation training to remain competent in operating simulation equipment and standards of best practice in simulation education delivery.
  • Collaborate effectively to Nursing Leadership, the National Simulation Director, Simulation Specialists, Campus Director, faculty, and staff in all areas related to the Simulation Center
  • Supports the vision of simulation delivery across the organization.
  • Acts as the IDR for laboratory medical waste management and medical waste training as required by OSHA.

Technology Support20%


  • Performs equipment software and firmware updates for simulation equipment and technology.
  • Troubleshoots all simulation technology; contacting vendor and campus technology support as needed.

Reporting Relationships:

The Simulation Coordinator reports directly to the Nurse Administrator, who may be a Dean of Nursing, Associate Dean of Nursing or Area Dean of Nursing. The Simulation Coordinator collaborates closely with the National Simulation Director and campus leadership regularly. This role also interacts with the Nursing Laboratory Assistant when necessary. This role has no direct reports.

Requirements:

  • Professional certificate, diploma or applied associate’s degree is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working in a clinical environment in a healthcare setting.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) a plus.
  • Knowledge and ability to use medical simulation equipment.
  • High degree of technical proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Knowledge of the nursing concepts, terminology, and techniques.
  • Ability to set-up and use video equipment.
  • Ability to maintain safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to lift, move, up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends as needs dictate.
