Executive Producer, Slate Podcasts

 

Slate is looking for an experienced producer to oversee its podcasts. The ideal candidate has experience producing audio as well as a strong background in operations, organization and management. This is a leadership position, reporting to the editor in chief; the role oversees our podcast production teams, and supports their efforts to grow both listenership and Slate Plus membership. Accordingly, the executive producer of podcasts will be responsible for tracking goals and managing budgets, and assessing and directing resources. They will work with a variety of teams at Slate and help shape our audio strategy and Slate’s overall editorial strategy as well.

 

Slate’s terrific slate of shows span chat, narrative and news, and ideal candidates will have touched all three types of storytelling in their careers—or at least been exposed to the different modes of storytelling. They will have worked with producers, hosts and engineers; while this is not a production job, they must know audio production, soup to nuts. Additionally, this role requires an ability to communicate clearly, make decisions confidently, and to be wholly invested in making Slate’s audio unit successful both commercially and culturally.

 

Slate welcomes candidates with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The position can be located in New York or D.C. Strong remote candidates will be considered.


Key Responsibilities
  • Overseeing 10+ teams producing Slate podcasts on a variety of cadences, and providing management, mentorship and support across the network
  • Tracking show progress against goals, and assessing and adjusting strategy as needed
  • Acting as liaison with the Slate Plus team, owning and supporting our audio endeavors to grow membership
  • Recruiting producers and talent, freelance and for open staff positions, as needed
  • Managing show budgets
  • Participating in overall Slate leadership, and working with the Slate text/website team to bring audio and text in alignment and collaboration


Key requirements
  • At least 5 years in leadership/high level management in media
  • At least 10 years working in audio
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality, ambitious audio programming
  • An understanding of Slate’s audio products, and Slate editorial generally


$150,000 - $160,000 a year
