This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the success of our organisation by managing recruitment activities and supporting HR operations across the business.

About our Role:

As our HR & Recruitment Officer, you’ll ensure a smooth and professional recruitment process while supporting key HR functions. From crafting engaging job adverts to securing high quality talent, to supporting managers with employee relations issues, your role will be integral to creating a positive employee experience.

Our role is full time, working 37.5 hours a week Monday – Friday, based in our modern offices in Harwell Science Park, near Didcot.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment:

●       Write and post engaging job adverts across multiple platforms.

●       Actively identify candidates using databases, job boards, and ATS sourcing tools.

●       Conduct initial telephone screenings and support Managers in face to face and virtual competency based interviews

●       Organise, plan and create interview packs for all interviews.

●       Build and manage a talent pipeline for future hiring needs.

●       Collaborate with recruitment agencies when required.

●       Ensure compliance with UK employment laws and GDPR during all recruitment activities.

HR Operations:

●       Assist with employee lifecycle tasks, including grievances, disciplinaries, and flexible working requests.

●       Support managers with absence management and improvement plans.

●       Work with the HR Administrator to ensure accurate payroll processing.

●       Maintain GDPR-compliant HR records and support learning and development initiatives.

●       At least 1 year in recruitment and 1 year in HR advisory roles, with exposure to employee relations casework essential.

●       Strong interpersonal, communication, and administrative abilities.

●       High attention to detail and efficiency in fast-paced environments.

●       Knowledge of recruitment related law and best practice

●       CIPD Level 3 or 5 in People Management Qualification

Applicants must be able to provide evidence of their Right to Work in the UK.

All roles at SMS require a DBS check; SMS Environmental will cover the cost of this if you do not already hold a valid DBS certificate.

For more than 24 years, SMS Environmental has been one of the leading water hygiene service providers throughout the UK, ensuring the public are protected from infectious diseases that can be carried through water systems. We provide essential services to an array of domestic and commercial clients including water testing, risk assessments, air sampling and air conditioning maintenance.

Our extensive skills and expertise in infection control and systems management have given us a key opportunity to drive the design and standardisation of Water Treatment education and training used throughout the industry today. We work closely with City & Guilds, CIBSE (CPD) Accreditation Board and UKAS to create, review and enhance modern water hygiene training course contents, materials and assessments to ensure they are fit for purpose and set high standards for the whole sector to aspire to.

All SMS employees are trained to the highest standard using a range of in-house training and external learning programmes that are accredited by City & Guilds. SMS Environmental has been awarded the Investors in People accreditation since 2011 and we continue to invest in our employees by supporting individuals to achieve their next step within their career.

SMS Environmental employs over 215 people from water treatment engineers and plumbers to office staff across our 4 nationwide offices based in Harwell, Derby, Wales and Scotland.
