Summary:

This position will be responsible for support of Thermal Product safety compliance for the business units in USA and Europe. Providing Industrial Hygiene support as required to ASM business units in Asia is also required. This position will help ASM’s design engineering team on proper functional safety analyses and risk assessments to ensure all new products, and upgrades and retrofits to existing products meet safety compliance requirements with primary focus on SEMI standards and the Machinery Directive. This position will support product safety engineering risk assessment analyses and significant incident analysis by coordinate globally with all PSE teams and help manage the new ASM Risk Assessment Database and new Enablon Safety Incident Reports (SIR’s) database. Provide EHS and product safety engineering support services focusing on Industrial Hygiene and Tracer Gas assessments. Travel internationally in support of all of ASM’s engineering and manufacturing operations. Work closely with a global EHS and Product Safety organization to drive and continuously improve ASM’s Industrial Hygiene programs.

Job Description:

  • Responsible for conducting hazard analysis and the related risk assessments for new products and review upgrades and retrofits to existing products for safety compliance
  • Coordinate the 3rd party assessments of the equipment to comply with SEMI safety standards as well as the European Directives, and provide guidance on design practices necessary to comply with these standards
  • Take ownership of customer equipment safety related questions and issues
  • Develop and conduct training and education to employees
  • Lead/contribute to product design related Safety Incident Reports (SIR’s) investigations, including root cause analysis.
  • Develop and implementing programs, policies, and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of chemical and physical hazards
  • Identification of IH and TG opportunities by coordinating with ASM's R&D tool owners to address opportunities
  • Conducting industrial hygiene (IH) testing and tracer gas (TG) testing to support EHS at ASM sites and product safety compliance for ASM business units within regulatory requirements.
  • Managing all aspects of assessments, including shipping samples out to ACGIH accredited laboratories, managing IH records, and identifying opportunities for equipment or process changes to minimize occupational stressors on ASM and ASM customer’s personnel
  • Coordinating with regional EHS Leaders on the development and execution of IH Plans to support ASM sites, operations and facilities
  • Will be a key member of ASM’s Global Product Safety Engineering Counsel, and work together with other ASM Product Safety Engineers (PSE) leaders to maintain global equipment design guidelines (for safety compliance)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, Safety, or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in conducting industrial hygiene assessment including monitoring for chemical exposure following NIOSH/OSHA integrated methods, real time sampling for UV/IR exposure, performing noise and Rf assessments
  • 10+ years’ experience safety experience in a semiconductor industry or related industry including industrial equipment safety standards (i.e. SEMI S2, Machinery Directive)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene

Skills Required:

  • Strong Project Management skills – ability to execute and drive projects to closure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate electromagnetic compatibility emissions & immunity testing
  • Proficiency in multiple areas/aspects of personnel exposure assessments, including but not limited to chemical exposure, radiation, and noise
  • Ability to effectively manage customer safety inquiries and issues
  • Ideal candidate will show initiative and be innovative, self-motivated, have proven communications and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a clean room wearing Personal Protective Equipment including in, around and on semiconductor fab equipment
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb, lie and crawl in order to be able to inspect all levels of facility and equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Working software knowledge of MS office
  • Be able to travel overseas one week per quarter

Additional / Desirable:

  • Knowledge of European Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) Annex 1, Annex 7 requirements
  • Knowledge of European EMC Directive (2014/30/EU)
  • Knowledge of SEMI Standards and common interpretations
  • Experience in estimating the risk of harm (per SEMI S10/SEMI S14) based on each hazard identified
  • Experience in leading engineering design review sessions using FMEA, HAZOP, “What-If” or other hazard identification methods of new modules and subsystems
  • Experience in estimating the risk of harm (per SEMI S10/SEMI S14) based on each hazard identified
